I'm so exited

I sold my last horse in the spring, because we well suited as a pair, he wants jump, I like dressage.

So started looking and couldn't find anything at a good price. Then I became really I'll, having migraines that lasted 3 days twice a week and fainting all the time. So had to stop work and I spent the summer in bed. I'm know getting well again. Thank god, although the docs havnt been able to find out what is wrong, they were thinking brain tumour at one point!

So starting to look for work, just 16-20 hours a week, to start with. And my dp has said I can start looking for horses again! However I have a very small budget as the money from my last horse has had to go on living while I've been ill.

I'm thinking of getting a sec d from the hillbilly sales, a 3 yr old to back myself. Have done this before but not for a while.

My last horse was a full tb, who dropped weight at a hat and cost me a arm and leg in vet bills. So going for something a bit hardier this time around.

So if you know of any good sec d's for sale, let me know. As I said budget is very small ATM, but will build etc month.

Can't wait!

How exciting for you!! Glad you are feeling well again

IMHO
hmm 3 things

1)if you haven't actually owned a welsh then too be honest I would not recommend you get one as a baby

2) not all Welshies are good doers!

3)If you have been ill a Welshie may not be the best breed, they are often STRONG opinionated and stubborn and dam quick minded

Too be honest if you are used to TB's I would get another one, they are more straight forward, as in you get what you see

A quiet failed racer who was just too slow will have seen something of life and generally speaking have been taught manners. not to mention they are cheap atm too

OP - glad you are on the mend.

Ignore Poster number 2 - what a load of twaddle!

Welsh sec D's are not worse than TBs. They are on a par with each other!

there is a sale in devon i think on 18th

not sure if there are any Welsh D crosses, maybe with a ring xx

Agree!!
I have a TB and a welsh D (only 16 months old) and he is seriously chilled and lovely to be around. If anything the TB is much more opinionated and highly strung than he ever is!!
TBH every horse has their quirks!!

Thanks

Yeah I've had welshes before, a very strong rig too. That was gelded at 10, 6 weeks before I had him! I was only 13 too. That's what I like about them.
I've had pretty much most breeds, welsh, tb, tbx, shire, sheltland, warmblood (used to buy and sell a few years back)

So yes I'm used to sec d's. And have backed many horses, i also used to work to a large horse recuse centre, so come across all sorts of types, problems and issues. I know that not every cob is fat, trouble free or not injury prone.

And when I mean hardier, it will still be rugged and stabled, hard feed, shod (although i think im going try going barefoot, if it suits the horse.) etc. Hopefully I will have one that doesn't need 4 hard feeds a day (as my last horse did) I know it's the luck of the draw but hopefully I will get a good one.

there was a gelding on here a couple of days ago that someone had posted about- owner needed to sell and willing to take silly money- think if you go back a few days in posts you should find it- titled something like can anyone help this gelding ( or something similar) maybe suitable
sorry i cant remember who it was that posted it- will try and have a look!

Glad your feeling better. Have you thought about a coloured cob? Theyre good doers in winter

Yeah thinking about a coloured to (always wanted a lovely tri coloured) but I don't like anything to heavy, so going to see whats about, and go from there.

Really want to get back into showing again. Used to a lot when I was younger, and great success with my first welsh. So aiming to go down route again. Plus he did sj, hunting, xc, dressage etc he was the whole package really.

And as for wanting a young one, the past few horses I've had have had loads of issues under saddle, the tb for example found it really hard to relax, and it cost me a fortune getting his back right after a badly fitted saddle (old owner). So want a blank canvas this time around.

I've got a good team behind me too, a local dressage pro is at hand who I will use, even if it means having 2 lessons a week (did this for a while with the tb) to get going.

Horsey ads here I come

Go for section D or cross, much easier to throw in a field if you get ill again and will sell easier if you get so ill you can't manage.

Super news that you are well enough for horse shopping!!

I've had a rocky few years with a head injury, being in a lot of pain, and in that time had my dream horse retired and my precious veteran pts. I am now, like you, finally shopping for a new one, and being back in the saddle is the best feeling ever. It really makes me realise what a void there's been in my life without a horse to ride. :)

What sort of height are you after? And where in the country are you? If you list the height/age/type parameters, and your budget, then lots of people on here are good at finding suitable adverts

Best of luck :) You must keep us updated on your progress & when you find 'the one' :)

How rude! how about you don't agree and in your opinion.... bad manners or what!!
not really!
you could also be classed as rude - trying to chide me! however im sure i wont lose sleep over it. if you read post 2 - the tone itself was somewhat rude.
however i dont expect you to agree so we will have to agree to disagree. :)

Thank you, it has been hard not beening around horses but at least it came at a good time.

I've got a horsey family and lots of good horsey friends that are currently horseless who would be happy to help if I take a bad turn. And there's always the girls on the yard, so not worried, and hopefully it's gone forever, the doctors gave me a fit to work note 6 weeks ago, and just been chilling since then.

I'm looking for a reg'd d

3-5yrs just backed or unbroken
Something I do in hand work with this side of Xmas, short walks, manners sorted, experience traffic etc (all the baby stuff) too break after Xmas or the spring. Depending on the weather.
West midlands based but don't mind traveling a few hours.
Don't mind mare/gelding/colour
Price ATM £600 in the pot, but can put away an £400 each month at least

Yes I was being outspoken , I can't abide bad manners, certainly will agree to disagree, there is a way to get your point across without saying someone elses opinion is twaddle and to ignore them, this is insinuating you are correct and they are wrong. End of the day horses are all different and few are like their breed characteristics.

There are a few decent Welsh sales in Llanybydder but would you want to travel that far from WM to wales? xx

A true d is any solid colour,

There's a few on preloved, some just a few hundred. I've email 2 that are up to see if they are still for sale.

I'm not in any rush as time will only bump up my balance.

Although it is really annoying because in the spring I had £4500 to spend, and now it's down in the hundreds, but at least I was able to pay my bills.

Dam you illness!
Lol!
