Early start and lots of rain a very wet day but with a happy end for our first attempt at a ODE.

Sassy was a lot more babyish in the dressage being on grass and people walking past with umbrellas (annoyed gateway was right by my arena) but she was very good girl just green at times. Ended up with pleasing 32.5 and she got 8 for her paces!!

SJ – so much rain and course was small but seemed to be causing lots problems with stops and poles flying, I need not have worried she popped round sweetly a touch fast at times hence we had one down but it’s really coming together.

XC – was bit worried as so wet and some very spooky fences for baby – only her 3rd time seeing xc. We went sideways into fence one not sure how we got over but long legs help I think, popped little log, then fence 3 brush type going into field with people, scoreboards etc she did big spook went to stop few strides out then went and stopped and slipped so badly lost all her legs I though we were a gonna but she somehow found her footing I kicked her on couple strides out and she popped fence! Rest of course she grew in confidence, went straight through unflagged water splash which was brilliant warm up for water fence. Jumped log quite big and had to turn tight on top of hill to a ‘walk down’ through trees which had mini type steps of telegraph poles – more to stop wash down of topping really. Anyway it was flagged at the top before first pole, she went through flags then spooked at pole dithered the fence judge then shouted first refusal – I though WTF there’s no flags here I gave her big kick and down she went. I refocused as water next – straight through so pleased, then the ditch rode nice and hard she didn’t even look then on home in lovely rhythm.

Soon as I sorted her out off I went to head XC steward to discuss flagging of fence – as I thought the fence is the line of flags she’d gone through those so couldn’t see how they could fault me, after long discussion him saying those flags were for whole obstacle he decided it shouldn’t have been awarded and took faults off.
I am sure I am right I should not have been faulted as she’d gone through flags, the first ‘step/pole’ was over one horses length from flags, they were only set of flags…….. (advice?)

Anyway as we live so close took her home then went back to see scores and we’d ended up with quite a few time faults as after her ‘sit down slip’ I took it slow in places and to be honest could not have gone any faster safely everyone else had got lots too sensibly – and we ended up 2nd!!! So pleased.

I know it was only unaffiliated ‘mini’ ODE but I’ve only had her 6 weeks and it was only her 5th competition outing so I am over the moon and so is her owner! It certainly helped me through my emotional wkend.

She will be up for sale end of this week and see what response we get, she will certainly make someone a cracking horse.
