Well those of you on face book may have noticed that i have a new horse!! Well hes an ex racer, hes 12 and been out of training for 9 months and been in "training" for 4 months now. He came to the yard were i was working for reschooling and i just grew so fond of him so when i left and the owner asked if i wanted him so i jumped at the chance.
So i have had him at home now for 2 weeks and hes been great! Lunged him for the 1st few days when we got him home then got on him last sat and he was great, so off i went to book a dressage lesson with new trainer for the weekend!
Jumped him for the 1st time at home on wed (only been jumped a handfull of times over SJs and again he was great) popped over a few little X poles and a double and considering hes been in training since he was 4 he was great!!
Had my 1st dressage lesson on him on sat and he stood on the lorry whilst i rode my other boy (cant leave him out as he was a very good boy - trainer very pleased how hes going!!) and didnt move a muscle. so got him out warmed him up and trainer thinks hes got great paces, hes got a very elevated trot and is very active behind, so we worked on long and low and bending and the progress was amazing! im not saying we're good enough to do a test yet but a major improvement!!
So after the success on sat we headed off for our 1st showjumping round!! Bless him considering hes never been to a "show", never seen a round of SJs and never been in an indoor school!! Warmed him up with little kids bombing around everywhere and he was so relaxed so popped a few little jumps and went in to do the 1ft 6 (no laughing - cant remember the last time i did a 1ft 6!!).
He walked in the areana and had a look at the people on the balcony and just trotted round. They were all X poles so i wasnt going to make him canter them - just wanted him to see them - so trotted most of them and canter a few and he, im going to say it again but he was amazing. Didnt look at anything and just poped through all the doubles related distances etc.. so i was beeming when i came out even thought we did have 2 down - more triped over them and they came down!!
Next on to the 2ft 3! This was a bit more our height!! Went in and just popped round again - fillers under most things (hes never seen fillers before) and flew round all be it with a few down so went in again HC at the end and this time he was even better just one down and was so much more confident (me and him!!)
So just thought i would share this with you all as i was so happy with the little man!!
Pics to follow as they are on the other computer!!
