And in spite of the majority opinion of most farriers, Wilf is not actually a liar so I do believe him.
Vets in Cumbria are no longer allowed to take their dogs on their rounds with them!

And apparently there is talk of it being rolled out nationwide!

If that follows then it won't be long before the farrier and feed merchant are then dictated to.

Just passing on info and would like your thoughts on it??

And what would be the reasoning behind this I wonder?
My equine vet always has his dog with him, expect they will be banned next!

But with FMD that actually makes sense because if the dog is allowed out of the car then to avoid spreading the virus it would have to be disinfected before leaving the premises - hardly practical or popular with the dog! If the dog stays in the car at every visit then it would be better left at home, especially in warm weather.

I object to the "nanny state" culture but to be honest this just seems like common sense.

well sorry to be a party pooper..but if there is any risk of strangles or foot and mouth or other infectious disease on the premises it sounds good sense to me!! dogs are not very good at dipping thier feet......and love sniffing around the dirtiest messes....and jump up at you...right above the disinfected wellies?

Then the question is, is this just for now because of F&M or will it be a permanent thing?

Apparently it was put in place before the FMD for vets, and I kind of agree with the spread of infection argument, but my vet's dog stays in her car when she is on a visit?!! And yes he does believe that farriers will be next!
BTW spare a thought for all of those guys down there with the FMD because they will be without any work for at least a month if the restrictions stay in force.

My vets dog is all over the shop when she visits, its so annoying- especially when there is bandaging or injecting to do as its unsafe and she hurtles into the stables. I wish she could leave it in the car??!!

None of our vets/farrier bring their dogs with them anyway but I haven't heard anything about it. Funny how much I actually learn off HHO about things which are more or less in my own back yard
