Right....my horse is turned out 24/7 with 5 other horses. I check him and my mates horse twice a day AM and PM and she checks them during the day (due to her working hours). We cover each other and I like the fact they are checked as aften as they are. Im not saying that those who only check their once a day are bad, but thats just how it works out for us

However - there are 2 horses in our field who are lucky if they are checked once a fortnight!! It makes me so angry and sad.

We are DIY so have to poo pick and also fill up their water tank and Ive never seen either of these owners do either. It make me so mad coz both horses loose shoes regularly. This morning I noticed one horse was down to 1 shoe left (out of 4!) and is hopping lame. YO has called her and she just doesnt give a flying toss

Not only does it make me so so angry that they dont care for their horses but we are looking after their horses for them i.e making sure they have water, care for cuts etc which is why the RSPCA wont get involved.

So - whats my next step.....

help.....

YO should take some responsibilty to contacting owners to ensure they keep horses correctly.
So frustrating i know. There is a pony in our field that gets ridden for three hours sat and sunday, jumpied into the ground then slung out in the field all week without being fed. It got nasty last week and tried to attack any horse as it left the field as it was jealous! Scary

I know Moonwalker - Id rather it be sold to a nice home rather than wasted in a field. Might have to contact RSPCA again......

Dianchi - YO has tried so hard bless her shes tearing her hair out! Its not only our yard then!!

Why doesn't your YO give them a month's notice to leave? If these people are blatently ignoring her requests and neglecting their horses then I'm afraid, if I were her, I'd get them off my property asap!

You say that the YO is trying hard but as far as i can see she is the only one who can do something in this situation, I would ask YO to charge them extra for the Poo picking/water filling you are doing ans give you the money, it isnt fair on you or the horses, can someone not suggest to them that their horses would be better off sold to a loving home!?

My yard's the same but to a larger scale - most of the owners leave there horses through summer - one old pony hasn't been seen to for over a month. I think it's disgusting!

My horse is the only horse out of over 20 with a bed put down, all the stables are full of sh*t.

O - good plan! Ill deffo mention to the YO about charging them - thanks!

If I ever see them Ill tell them their horses would be better off in new home - dont u worry

And I would have thought that for the reason he is old you would want to take more care of it - or is that me being silly

The old ponie's condition is dire - underweight, filthy coat.

Everyone on the yard isn't bothered/don't care - I'm the only one so I fuss over him whenever I see him, feel so so bad for him.

I'd happily buy him but have never seen the owner and I've been on the yard for around 6 months now.

Bad yard attitude when it comes to horse care - I'd be torn apart if I reported him, they'd suss it was me, I'm sure. Some nasty people there. - most don't have a clue!!! Can't wait to move to a competition yard next summer - at least the standard will be on a much, much better level than my current yard.

A few points -
1. Are you sure the horses/ponies' owners aren't just coming at a different time of day?
2. Can you ask YO to get them out of your field so you don't have to poo pick and look after them. Or divide your field with electric tape?
3. Make the YO deal with the situation...she is probably not feeling the burden of responsibility as you are carrying it for her (while she cashes the livery cheques and sympathises with you

)
Hope it gets resolved - been there, no fun!

Hi Shilasdair

Yeah everyone has to drive past where the YO lives so she can see all the cars and there is always someone around and no-one has seen her.
We could split the field I suppose but the shape of the fields makes it a bit awkward - hard to explain but not enough room for decent gate ways if we created another field.
Thanks - I think after I spoke to YO this morning she is aware how I feel so hopefully she will get it resolved. I just feel so bad for the horses involved - but they get some attention from us I suppose.
