it only took half an hour, i thought it would take me ages. still need more practise tho as it was a bit messy. altho i gave them a test drive and they stayed in for a hack! my sexy show pony!!
Wow! Were your fingers aching lol!!! Quick tip, hope you don't mind, I find when fastening once they're rolled, I keep holding them down as I wind the band round, then they don't stick up quite so much (mine has a mane that is really too long to plait neatly though!!).
Hope that makes sense, but well done! I plait once a year for the last couple of years (used to do it every week for a few years up til 12 years ago) and it takes me much longer then 30 mins lol!!!
thx tennesse. when i go to the show, i'm gonna use thread to fold them over and sew them down, always got a better finish like that. didnt want to waste my thread practising today tho!
Wish I could plait like that! I tried yesterday and it was terrible, should of took a pic to put on here. Didnt help with my lad moving his head all the time and moving about when I am standing on a stool. So annoying!
thx everyone, i'm quite chuffed! i'm too self critical and thought they were messy. i dont hve to stand on anything as my lad is only 13.3 and i gave him a haynet which went down well and kept him still. a real treat for him, as he lives out 24/7 and only gets hay in winter. need to buy some more hay tho as it all went! bunny rabbit packets from the pet shop arent horse sized!
I came back from Pony camp a few weeks ago and borrowed my friends pony [as mine are both on box rest] and his mane is as thick as can be! I plaited for 3 days and on the last day [show day] I was determined not to have golf balls. I ended up with 25 plaits [yes 25] and they were still like gold balls. I think if I owned that horse he would be hogged by now Although im not a fan of hogged manes
But your plaits are good I find thread actually takes longer [if you take into the account you have to keep threading the needle, and i'm not great at that] but it does look a lot neater and they stay in so much better, they also damage your horses mane less, I find bands tend to break the hairs if you dont take them out carefully
