My first cob and he's Clydesdale too

Can I join the cob club and the Clydie club please :D ?

I've never had one before and he's wonderful. Such a lovely character :)

Apart from being a little short of feather, he looks just like someone shrank a full Clydesdale on too hot a wash :D

He's four this year and currently a bit over fifteen hands. Anyone got any guesses as to how big he will grow? He's been done well for six months, but prior to that came over from Ireland a bit lean.

His parentage is not recorded but the Clydesdale is unmistakable!

From four to seven, both the Clydies I broke and rode put on between 2 inches and a hand. They are late filler-outers too, so beware sudden chest expandage and sudden shoulder/quarter growth spurts. I would also invest in a breastplate if you don't have one as they tend to get shouldery before building up behind, so you can be riding more uphill than you would think a naturally forehandy type would be... Young Clydes can be very trippy too, so just be aware.

However very jealous and pics a must! They are such a fun breed and so smooth and powerful to ride :)
 
I saw his advert in your last thread about him and he's lovely!

At rising 4yrs I'd expect him to put on only a couple inches of inches.. But he's going to fill out a LOT and therefore seem to get a huge amount bigger.
Hopefully you'll have a lot of fun with him.

15.2 will do nicely :)


I bought him unseen and I have to say he's a LOT better than the photos on horsemart. Bigger, much more neck, more obvious Clydesdale head, more bone. He's just such a lovely natured boy though, that's the best thing.

I did wonder about digging out my breastplate. I think I probably need to put the foregirth in his saddle when I screw it together too..I'm waiting for a six gullet plate (widest I have is a four and it's nowhere near! ) He has been sat on once or twice, the rest is now up to me.

Isn't the Apple bottom lovely :D ?

Congratulations, I searched your old posts and found his photos ;) he's gorgeous :D I've got a Clyde x and she's fabulous hope you enjoy him as much as I enjoy my girlie :)

Spent my day up and down M1 yesterday and didn't manage to horsenap :p

He's gorgeous but need proper photos of apple bum!

p.s. don't tell Shils!
 
Glad he's got a nice home, I was tempted to go and see him but he was just a little too small. He reminds me of how Boston looked when we first got him.

Boston grew another inch or so from the 15.3 he was as a 5yo but has expanded massively in the neck and bum regions going from 6'3 to 6'9/7'0 rugs!!

Good luck with him. If he's half as good as Boston then he'll be very good and hugely fun to ride and train!

He's my little toy boy :) I've got two seventeen handers, and I thought I'd get a bit of practice in for my old age.

He really moves, I can see some serious dressage scores in prospect and I'll bet he jumps too. :)

I'm a bit shocked myself GS. Ten years ago I would not have had a horse like him in my yard for love nor money.

But I'm heartily sick of the mental and physical fragility of the pedigrees I've been buying, and I just want some lighthearted and uncomplicated fun.

I've gone for a Clydesdale deliberately, because I think a good one moves to rival a good warmblood, and I've hit gold in that respect from what I saw today. And his character is just delightful. I have never come across a horse so incredibly cuddly but with such an inbuilt respect for my personal space.

I'm going to go the whole hog, pun intended :), and leave all his hair as nature intended. I must go and research running plaits.
 
We bought ours as a 3 yo at 15.3 and he grew to 17.1. He was the best SJ I have ever had and could turn on aa sixpence. Light on his feet, did all RC teams events...best horse ever. Enjoy!

Wow! That would be fine, he would end up about sixteen hands. Though anything approaching 15.2 will do nicely. He's so wide, he'll really take up my leg even if he doesn't grow at all. I can't wait to start his training off again, (he's been sat on, b briefly) but I've got no saddle yet.
 
This is my Clydesdale x, he's now about 12yrs old and managed to get to 16hh.

In his summer coat and clean legs. It's the size of their feet that amaze me.
