Well today I entered my first dressage competion ever with my new mare. She travelled brilliantly and wasnt bothered at the other end.
We warmed up in the outside arena and again she was great and then we entered the indoor school for the test itself. (We did the walk/trot test)
So off went went and we did a good test except for she spooked everytime we passed c. It ranged from moving into the school off the track, walking at a 90drgree angle to where we should have been so I was looking the judges in the face and the we even did a mini rear and bolt. But other than that we were did a ok test.
We came joint 9th out of 11. And I got into trouble for talking to her as we went along and to try and settle her so we didnt spook.
Never mind I suppose we can only get better from here.

sure, it will only get better! great that she travelled well! I'm trying to get my boy to travel now and then who know what'll happen :) we need piccies tho :)

As was said above, it was great that she travelled well, I know it can be a nightmare for some of my friends!
You'll learn from your mistakes and for your first ever competition you did really well. Congrats!

Thank you. Yeah she travelled like a pro :D So we just need to work on the cat/fox thing painted on the letter c board and then next time we may go round with no spooking at all ;) I've got a few more tests planned so we can practice and practice so we can get better :D

I'll go put pics up in the gallery just now :)

I had my first Dressage comp today too!! My loading was troublesome, and almost pulled out, but got there with 20mins ish to go, quick tack up and into warm up arena.

Forgot my whip and had to borrow someones!!! My girl was really good considering, quite distractable, neighing out to horses and having a nose around. But after when we were stood around waiting, just stood next to me, not even really needing to be held.

I enjoyed it today and want to do more over the summer. We are more into jumping really but it was good. Well done on your first experience!!

Ooo well done you the first time is bound to be the worst so all in all not too bad. Lol at getting in trouble for talking to her I was thinking when I was schooling my mare today that I'm not sure we could ever do dressage as in walk I constantly talk to her to keep her mind off finding things to spook at I'm not sure I would ever be able to break the habit!
