My first hack out with my polite attire on!! <funny picture>

So you have! I'm not very observant am I! Wonder why they make them so huge, surely they'd sell more if they were smaller??

You cant really see the boots and she has very delicate (twig like) legs!!!

I think they were designed for use with boots but don't quote me!

Where had everybody bought theirs from?

I got mine just off the tinternet as even though it was a little bit more ££££ than eBay I got it all from the same shop

After watching a debate on a very popular Police Forum, the general gist towards the Polite equipment is;
Batten burg (blue and white cheqeurs) is not limited to the police, and that is perfectly okay to have.
Now, they believe that the producers may have ran it through a police friend, but not through the official head people. Some officers feel it is impersonating a police officer in the sense it is intentionally designed to look like a police officer, some aren't bothered by it. The chances of you being taken to the station with your horse is not going to happen, the police officer would be laughed out of the station. Wear it, and enjoy the courtesy :) Great picture btw!

The blue and white check is called Sillitoe tartan and although the police have adopted it, they don't own it as a pattern.

The word Police is not written anywhere and as you are not attempting to search or arrest people - you are not impersonating a police officer.

So it's all legal to wear.

BTW, OP I think you both look awesome :D

fantastic pic !!!

Makes a HUGE difference to road safety - if you've not got this stuff, at least try the tabard. :)

Love this!! (Hope you're reading this thread, H & H Editor Lucy! ;))

OP - you look great!

Agree - I can imagine what the custody sgt would say to the arresting officer :D

Most of the general police would happily never go near a horse anyway :D

See that made me google it and there were a fair few angry threads from car drivers!

Lucy would be very upset about that picture, maybe even be

I wonder where Lilly would end up with me arrested....squeeze her in the boot of the neeeeeenaaaaaw car?!

Good for you. If I see GREEN Luminous I always think its the police and mostly its road workers. The glint of the green definitely jogs most peoples senses. I too have the Polite notice and it does work..mind you my polite horse is a big fat gypsy cob creamy monster! Not a giant Police horse.

I did have the please pass wide and slow. Which made everyone laugh..me or the horse(usually they said me).

As for impersonating a police officer what about all those children who dress up as one etc fireman etc

Great pics. I have the polite gear for mine too, hat band tabard, leg wraps, exercise sheet etc and it really does make a difference even on a piebald cob!

I'm afraid I'm not old enough to mistake 6 year olds for young policemen! ;) Well maybe! ;)

You certainly look very visible and if you were to part company with your horse at least drivers would have a better chance of avoiding it. I've had my tabard for a while now and it does generally help traffic to slow down and respect my space. Think I will splash out on hatband and legbands as well after seeing poor Ruby.
I have been asked to give directions a couple of times whilst out riding and happily obliged, hope I don't get arrested for that!

I think the 'polite' stuff is great, and you look great in the pick OP!

However my other half has told me not to get it as he thinks I would get into trouble for 'impersonating' a police officer!

I would direct him to the post a few posts up which confirms that none of the elements are illegal. I do have bit of concern about the anger of 'tricked' drivers judging from some of the posts on other forums (non horsey) but thats probably less than my concern of being squashed in the first place....

its a shame it takes (sort of) pretending to be police to get drivers to do what they should be doing in the first place :-((((

Guys if this was 'impersonating' the police too much it would have been banned within a week and huge articles every where in it. The colours of the police union are the colours which the eyes catch first. So of course having a similar outfit to their riding wear is genious, you're not harming the police in any way you're actually benefiting them!

If a car is speeding down the road they'll spot the 'polite' uniform straight away thinking it's an officer, they'll reduce their speed like they should do and pass extra wide then they would to a normal rider. So all in all:
A. Your saving your life
B. Saving there's because you're forcing them to slow down
C. Who doesn't love a bit of dress up!? I don't know about you guys but I always wanted to be in the mounted unit!

I have the tabard...I have found it really effective.

Planning on extending my range.....

It looks great on my grey arab....not so convincing on the dun highland.....but it sends the local kids running when they've been pratting around in the crop fields......:D

He he.. I find it funny that people won't wear hi-viz just because it doesn't look good on a peibald :D

A dead horse is a dead horse, piebald or not.

I do think it looks good on big bays but I think it looks weird on smaller/cobbier/coloured horses/ponies.

They're a bit more believable as police horses - like the OP's picture (which btw I love the horse's nashing teeth at the ready to catch bad drivers :D)

Not sure my Haffy would be as believable :D

Would love to see a young pony clubber on a thelwell type in the polite range :D

this is a bit off topic, but why do all the police horses wear the same bit? Sorry I just always seem them wearing the same bits! I know it's a safety issues just incase something did happen but having that kind of a bit on a soft mouth is a bit harsh!
