Okay I keep toying with the idea of possibly selling my youngster.
I have an idea of what I would put his market value at but at this price I would be tempted not to sell and to keep him.

He is rising 3, unbacked at present, standing around 16hh hoping he will reach 16.1hh. Iron grey. 3/4 TB and 1/4 ID. By the TB stallion King's Composer and out of an ISH mare who did county workers and BSJA (King of Diamonds and Ben Purple lines).

Good points: 3 excellent paces and an outstanding unflappable temprement.
Bad points: not the best conformation (short in the neck mainly), plain head, currently fairly immature for his age in comparison to what else seems to be advertised.

He has been bitted, worn a saddle and lightly lonreined as a 2yo. Will shortly start to longrein again with a view to backing in the summer.

He finished in the top 8 at PAVO 2yo for potential event horses last October.

So any ideas for price now and in 6 months when lightly backed?

Would say £3k
Mainly because he has the dreaded *potential* over his head, he is yet to be proven.
He looks so well and grown up compaired to the weedy baby you bought.
Broken and ridden away I would go with £4k. However, do some work with him over next winter and spring bring him out read to do some Pavo 4 year old classes you could be asking a fair bit more.
 
Spot on with my thought's BBs, if I saw him advertised I don't think I'd spend any more than 3K atm, but to me he's worth more to keep if you get my meaning!
 
I agree with AmyMay- would probably get £4k/ £4.5k for him un- backed. Lightly backed I would say nearer £5.5k/ £6k if he is sensible and in light work going sweetly probably nearer £7.5k. He is nicely bred and looks very sweet and horse prices are going mad

I dont have a clue on prices but that is one very stunning horse you have, really really like him and im not usually a fan of greys

I would back him as I think he would be worth far more - also if his neck muscled up I think it would look better. Alos in 6 months he will have filled out with spring grass and probably grow some more.
I would say £3-4k unbacked and £5-6k backed maybe possibly more as I am sure somone would pay good money to do PAVO and BYEH.

No idea on pricing but I have fallen in love with him, just the sort i want when i finish uni.

Kings Composer horses are just making their mark.
They are known to be quirky, although R sounds like hes taken his dams temp.
Personally I feel you are *nearly there now* and it would be a shame to sell something that could be worth more to you in the future.
That is, if you decide to sell, as he may be a super competition horse for you to have a lot of fun with.
Equally, have a bit of fun with him over next winter, bring him our ready for Pavo and sell him before he actually competes.
 
You are right, I am just so impatient. Longing to get out eventing and J is limited in what he is allowed to do!
Might dressage him over the summer then look to loan/part loan him as a hack/dressage horse and concentrate on R.
I don't have time and money to run 2 horses though, oh for a lottery win!
 
Indeed, the boring turning out to grass to mature is nearly over, hes soon to be a proper competition pony.

You and I both.
Toying with the idea of just turning winston to grass this summer, and concentrate on just the one. Means i can have more horses in the yard over the summer, which helps pay for more comps and training which I so desperately need.
I dont have much else to give up now, I dont go out, dont smoke or drink.... so bar a lottery win.....If they come up, will split it with you
 
Mmmmm he's lovely, gorgeous colour and will definitely benefit from some muscle on his neck. Currently would expect to pay around 2-3k for him now and 4k if backed, but then I'm a tight northener!!!

Hmmmm well considering what I have been told H is worth (for those that don't know, they share the same sire), I would estimate that he would be worth £3-5K now and broken and lightly ridden away £5-8K! King is still a young stallion (14, maybe 15 - which is young for a comp horse stallion) and as BBs says is just beginning to make his mark with his ridden stock and a couple of years ago at the National Hunter Show, he was the sire of a fairly unique 1,2,3 in the Sports Horse Yearling Class! They are proving to be bold across country and have excellent jumps - he has some very good BSJA horses out there, one of his daughters is only a few pence away from Grade A (she's only 8/9). I've not heard anything about their temperaments tbh, the ones I have met (I've met a fair few) have been delightful.

Seriously, I think around £4k lightly broken in.. next year as a 4 year old if he is schooling and jumping small courses as well he could be anything up to £10k depending on how good he is judging on current horse prices.
Not really worth selling him now...
 
I suppose I'll just have to keep him a while longer then!
If you are bored over the summer and fancy riding him a bit just shout, I can nanny on J.
