With a difference ...

How much would you expect to pay someone who is a general maintenance person around the yard (fencing, rolling the school, building/repairing stables etc), walking the dogs occasionally, ideally with an HGV licence and would be prepared to drive to some shows. Two bedroomed cottage, all bills paid (apart from phone). If possible, with an OH that would be happy to do some housework (cleaning holiday cottages occasionally) who would be paid on an hourly basis depending on how much they wanted to do.

Hmm, if it includes the cottage and all bills except phone (I presume this includes council tax) then I'd be happy with minimum wage, as your only real expenses would be groceries and luxuries such as clothes/horse etc

Whatever you do make sure that they sign something to say you are allowed to remove the cottage from their wages. You aren't allowed to remove anything from someones salary with out their written permission

Thanks for your responses. Do you think that £14k would be enough to tempt the right sort of person? SSM - does the Lady carry ads for a general handyman? I've never read it but assumed it was for "posh" people!

Yes I think that sounds perfectly reasonable. The Lady is the best magazine to find housekeepers and odd-job folk.
