So, after exams and setbacks over the last few weeks, we finally made it to downham. Who asked for rain. We got lots!

Warmed up for dressage well

... but went in and he could hardly stand up! think he slipped 7 times

and couldnt rebalance. Very embarrased for 47! But ho hum, thats stressage for you!

Onto the SJ, our bogey phase. Luckily trainer was on hand to help warm up. He felt super duper. Course was twisty with a treble, but not overly huge! 1, 2, 3, 4 okay, but lost impulsion and had 5 down... my fault. the rest ok but 7-8 (both the 1.15 fences) they forgot to put the last part of the treble up! So commentator and stewards were shouting and stuff- very unprofessional. As i turn for treble it is put up, but i slowed down ready to circle. Stopped at first part- my fault really but id have got over had it not been for the palava! so 8 and 3 time- we survived

XC- really revved up but catious. wanted a nice slow clear. 1, 2, 3 a giuant hedge- huge jump

, 4 was a bit sticky at. 5 STOP

. He just didnt feel right at all, wasnt a hard fence. represented and clear. 6 STOP. What was happening!? Carried on, but didnt feel at all right. Foud out at the end that he lost ll 4 studs on his right side
frown.gif
probably why? But rest of the course went clear and ok

So finished with a bad result on paper, but it felt so good to 'scare' myself for once. Felt like a proper course rather than a walk in the park!

Saw tallavera and thistle too

Off to purston and wilton next- cant wait!

A strong coffee and roast dinner (my dad's are the best after eventing!) for all who got here, or something stronger if you're as tired as i am!

Well done mate, you kept your end of the deal, sadly mine was called off after stressage so very wet, drawn out trek to do an less than average test. I did manage to stay in the arena, but had to virtually stand and yank to get him back after medium canter (could see XC start and there was a nice hedge on the way!!!)

Well done not surprised he wasn't that confident if you lost that many studs, better screw them in a bit tighter next time! Might see you at Wilton.

some exciting the aslong as no one or animal gets hurt excitment is good!

i cant fence judge it scares the life out of me!!

Yeah might well do, im training with rodney powell then so will probably be on the day that clashes with the OI (not sure what day it is!)

well done

what an honest little horse for completing with no grip on one side just proves when hes got everything it should be easypeasy

good luck in your next events

I hope next time his stilettos stay put and he's happier XC, good result this time considering losing his studs on such slippery ground, what a genuine fella for continuing regardless.

Really well done!! it's soo nice to get that first novice out of the way!

Fab result considering the SJing palava and XC with studs doing a disappearing act!

Good luck for your next events!

congrat on completing 1st novice, but i'm sure losing stud didn't help - but still well done for getting around in such horrible conditions

I was fence judging fence 5,

I would of give you a wave if i had know but after being there from 8am until 7.10 yesterday and again today all day i was just pretty much in auto pilot by the novice

Well done on completing your first Novice.
We felt so sorry for the JRN'ers...with all that rain. We were lucky to be leaving after having completed our day at about 11.30...just as the heavens opened.
Sounds like you had a lot to cope with, rain, studs & first time Novice. You did well.

Very well done, you'll feel so much more confident next time - it'll never be your "first one" again

And studs would help
