Ok, so dressage didn't go so well, it was on the side of a hill and the warm up was virtually non existant, plus we were running late (not my fault I might add..) so I didn't get enough warm up. All went well until we had to canter, and he shot off like he was going xc with his head in the air! So didn't settle although did do a fairly straight centre line and halt...
judge 'not listening to rider' .......lol rider was saying slow down! Plus had to do lengthened trot down the hill, no good. Ended up on 47.1, fair enough although can judges not put like one positive remark on the sheet?
SJ, nearly had me off at the first x pole, tried to trot, and he exploded into canter, which as I was holding for trot, mant short and v. springy =odd jump, cat leap cross buck and los of stirrups
.Anyway, got him settled once we jumped some bigger fences and once in, only really lost him(ie he galloped off) once, and had the last pole off which I was happy enough with. Not a full novice course, shared half the jumps with pre-novice but a few up to height.
And finally XC! The ground was actually not bad, a teensy bit hard in some places but they worked hard and it was ok, though I wouldn't run there again as it is fairly rutted. In case you hadn't guessed, I walked the course last night and no. 4, was a shocking great ditch n front of a brush. Anyway, shot out of the start, good over 1, spooked at 2 but jumped, flew the corner, sunken road, then this ditch. I sat up, held the reins and kicked on, slap down the shoulder and he jumped from miles out, no problems! Very pleased! On to a drop to skinny, no bother, steeplechase (FUN!
) And one more, then the drawbridge, he was full of himself so decided to go for the drawbridge, half cantered half trotted but forward, straight off. Glad he didn't stop, it was a fair old height on top of it on a 17hh! Odd striding out, but he saved us happily enough, on to a train, then a couple more brilliant, then a drop to a log, which he hesitated as I didn't push, but he doesn't stop so flew on, then a trakehner, flew it and got some good commentary about smiling!
Then a few more, finishing through the water and home!
So pleased, ended up with 5.6 time pens, but as I hooked a fair bit to get set up I'm happy enough. They did extend the time to allow for the ground. Ended up 8th out of 10, as my dressage was poor and the SJ put my down too but no stops so happy enough!
and for henryhorn -was at a place called tullymurry. I can't say for def it was 5ft, but I'm a bit taller than 5ft, like 5'5 I think and when standing next to it in the water its up to my shoulders (I think, didn't stand next to it as had trainers on, but did last yr) and the dogs can barely get their paws up on it (big crossbreed) so it's approximately that I'd say Not sure what the max drop is for novice? Rode well, neevr seen anyone had a problem at it either, although the bridge does bend under horses as they go over, but once you're on it you've nowhere else to go!
