My foal was born last night... hmmm... who's the daddy?!?

Do you have any history in the mare?

she was part of a small mixed herd going for meat. some coloured cobs (14 -15hh ish) a few trotters and some shetlands. she was the only pregnant one (could have been the only mare, the rest maybe were youngsters?) and it didn't sit well with me a pregnant mini shetland going for meat. so i brought her home, and thought we'd give her a chance. She's come on leaps and bounds. And has gone from having a very dull coat to an almost mirror like shine, which makes me think she's happier/healthier.
gosh, i wonder if she was covered by a coloured cob. eeek. it could be one strange looking pony. at least i will geld it to stop anymore random reproduction! :)

any ideas on colour anyone? i thought he was black but in the daylight he's a dark grey with slightly lighter legs and a brown ish face.

Blimey! He must have felt blooming claustrophobic in there and is clearly a contortionist to boot as for the life of me I can't see how he fit in her!

Will be interesting to see what he turns out to be. You'll have to keep us posted!

Apparently a certain minority group of people breed shetlands with cobs to get what they call 'stumpy cobs'. They sell them for £3000 + at certain horse sales!!!

Just for comparison this is my foal at 24 hours old, his dad is a sec A (I didn't deliberately breed him, his Mum was in foal when I got her). He is now 9 months old and taller than his Mum and his 2yo full sister towers over the both of them :) Good luck with your little guy :D

what a STUNNING chap! :) and gosh, yes, i think my foal is bigger (relative to his mum, mind you, his mum is mini) xx

By 'eck he's a big un!

A friend near me rescued a shetland who also gave birth to a gigantic foal, the dad is thought to be 14.2 cob. He's 3 now and built like a proverbial ***** house.

what a lovely story and oicture - mmmmmmmm a satd large for a shettie foal lol :) but healthy and sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :)

Your foal is stunning - good on you for rescuing the mum. She looks to be a nice type too and you certainly have got her looking well.

I was stunned at the size of the foal my mare produced last time - she is a 16hh Clydesdale and the sire 17.2 TB. My filly is now 2½ and far bigger than mum - I love her to bits, she has a beautiful TB head, legs that go on for miles but in winter grows a beard and hairy legs like her mum.

This is her at birth - when I look at the pics I wonder how she ever fitted inside. I promised mum at the time I wouldn't put her through it again as I had to help pull foal out. And another about four hours later. Coloour was a shock as dad is black.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

OMG your poor little mare. Was she badly torn? Did she need much assistance? That is a huge foal, well done to her and you!

I still think the only thing you can call him (given you already have an Iggle Piggle) is Makkapakka.
And god alive he is HUGE!!!
FB didnt quite show how big he is!!!
