Well it didnt go quite as planned .

Went in for the Lightweight hunter class. I knew we would have a few issues re cantering properly etc and was only really in for a bit of experience. However on the go round she decided she had enough and spun to head out the exit , i pulled her back and she reared right up , fast as a bullet.

Off i came - opps!!

Got back on board and things went a lot better till the judge got on and she gave a buck so the judge brought her back in - i dont blame her at all to be honest. We came 5th (out of five

Does any one else have any dodgy first show stories so i feel a wee bit better.

Well I'm planning my first ever show with my 6 Y/O this month and your story had made me feel a bit better about it as we are also only going for the experience (at least that's what I keep telling myself) but I am dreading it!!! Looking forward to other peoples experiences to help calm my nerve and put things into perspective!!!

Hope you aren't too sore and just your pride was dented. At my Mums first dressage test Mare was a nightmare, the judge was obviously looking very hard for a positive because she had written "lovely jacket" in the comment box!

Mine would be.. when i was about 6 (which was many many years ago!) i did my first show, the jumps were about 50 cm i was on my old grey pony, and he refused the first jump.. twice! he finally got there stopped dead, and did the biggest leap ever and went trotting out the gate hanging off his neck, someone came with a rope and caught us, then lead us round the course.. talk about embarrassing! I was capable (pony too) of jumping that course, double the height too.. grrr pony showed me up in front of everyone, amazes me i even got placed i came 6th!

My last embarrassing experience was with my 14.2. We were in the horse open jumping class (she was my jumping pony that i refused to give up). Well .. The height was 1.10 and at the double we crashed and burned. We fell together but i didn't fall off if you get me, we managed to get 2nd place .. the course was that hard every one had problems. For some reason though getting second didn't make me feel proud.
I still have the lovely silver plate we won which sits in my living room - it makes me shiver even to this day.

i dont tell people the story behind it - i just pretend we flew round the course like john & milton!

At my first show when Gulliver was 4 I tied him to the side of my trailer and started to put back boots on. A horse in the trailer next door when beserk. Gully was well spooked and leapt sideways knocking me flat. He panicked because he had his mum under his feet and leapt sideways. His quick release came undone and he put all his weight on my thigh which I had been unfortunate enough to leave under him when I fell over.

Squished thigh muscle was duly strapped up tight with a wet bandage tacked up got on did a mini HT clear round. Got off packed everything away drove him home absolutely fine. Got home and could I walk you must be joking. I hopped him back to his box and phoned my partner for international rescue. 4 months later a private doctor operated on the Haematoma(or however you spell it) as the NHS had said it would disperse in time and they were so wrong. Removed the bone splinters and I still have a neat scar the shape of a Russian sickle on my inner thigh thats 13 years old.
