My Gelding hates my new rescue pony - feeling sad!

I got a small pony to keep my horse company, my horse was bullied by his previous field companion. Enter small pony, I thought he was going to kill him! For a good few weeks he gave him the run-around at every opportunity. I think he was stamping his authority from the beginning. They are ok with each other now. Give it time.

I had similar experience to Faracat....my bigger mare turned into a savage the day my pony mare arrived, lunging and kicking out and generally showing her who was boss. I didn't turn them out together for 2 months but now they whinny if one of them walks out of sight for 2 secs. Its definitely way too early to start panicking yet.

This - I had an old cob who wouldn't shift out of second gear for love nor money but introduce a newbie and he became an evil relentless madman! It took about 2 months of having electric fence between them and then he was fine - I just took the fence down and they just grazed side by side.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Things have improved in that William is no longer lunging like a mad thing over the stable door and no more running at the fence! He even whinnied when I left him in the stable and took Noah for a walk around the field, so stopped panicking that he wants to kill him now, more like he just doesn't like him much, hopefully that will improve. Noah has settled well, he's very well behaved, with a bit of character!

That's good news, I suspect they will get used to each other if you give them time :)

My mare was horrified when we moved to a new yard to discover that the YO had miniature shetlands and would go ballistic when they ran over to the fence as she was being brought in (leaping, kicking, lunging) but funnily enough she did get used to them over time to the extent that they were all turned out together for a while. Can't say they were her best friends, but she did let them shelter under her when the weather was bad!

Ahh, that's so sweet! I do think maybe William was a bit unsure of exactly what he was to start with, (baby is also all white and not very big) his reaction was so extreme! , and I think now William understands he's just not keen, hopefully given time it will work out like your girl did - fingers crossed!

Having just read the thread, that's lovely news OP. Hopefully it'll get better still! Let me just say, I love their names. :)
