So I have my groom to help me bring in at night plus extra jobs but I'm going to sack her!

She never listens to what I say, calls my horses idiots ( bar one who she spoils with polos) complains about my mucking out and doesn't use my colour code scheme of morning buckets and haynets are blue dinner is red! Also she pulls a rug from the bottom of the pile and doesn't re do the pile! I gave her a warning and she told me to p off!!! Is this a sacking offence?!





Ps.. She is my mummy so twice as bad :D
 
No, revenge is much sweeter.

Offer to cook Christmas Lunch ...... ignore all suggestions/help and just think of how much fun your 'groom' is going to have clearing up the kitchen after you have cooked a nice burnt Christmas Dinner.

Should get the message through?
 
if i told someone i was working for to 'p*ss off' i would expect to get the sack if i ever went back.

i do however think good grooms are harder to find because people dont pay well
 
Yes it's a joke! I would be lost without her really! She gets paid in wine, cigs and occasional m and s vouchers, am I a good employer?!
 
This is what happened when the line between boss and employee gets blurred. Be strict. Do not be afraid to discipline her and avoid being overly friendly as she appears to be they type that does not know her place ;)
 
I have a similar problem with my groom.

They leave a trail of hay across the yard as they never use a wheelbarrow, they mostly manage to collect the wrong horse from the field [even after being given a through description of said horse,] the stables looks worse AFTER mucking out, and they feed the bigger horses about 2lbs of hay and give my son's fat, rolly polley pony enough hay [on the floor] for him to sleep in luxury for a week!

Oh yeah, and they have been known to turn out said horses with their stable rugs on - in the pouring rain!!!!

And don't even bother to ask them to fix a fence - they managed to drive the 4x4 into the poo pile [and get stuck] in the feild whilst getting electricuted.....in the rein.....!!

My son also gets a bit annoyed too at this lackluster approach from our groom........but then is prompty put on the naughty step for being cheeky - 'cos it's his dad!!

I used to be on a livery yard that put our horse out a few times in her stable rug, so not only unpaid family are capable of this, I was not best pleased I can tell you.
 
She sold her horses as she was fed up of the time and expense and just loaned the racehorsey out, I thought I was doing her a favour as she clearly has the time but doesn't have to pay now! It's not like she works full time too :)! Last time I'm nice to anyone!
 
I feel your pain... mine sucks too.

Last year he turned them all out in stable rugs more than once. He took 45 minutes to arrive last week when I got my car stuck in the mud (he's supposed to be on 24hr callout) and more annoying than all that put together, he never turns up without a packet of extra strong mints so my horses think he's the bees knees.

Sack her I tell you!!
 
Just let her get on with it. The old ones are the best!

Honestly, be glad that she is able to annoy you so much while she is helping out, when they get older mothers are a real worry.
 
Mine too can be very tiresome. Never listens to what I want done, spends hours lighting his pipe and chatting to the other liveries and then questions my stable management (all learnt from him, I might add).

His favourite is to release the twitch at exactly the wrong moment because he needs to re light his pipe!

The horses adore him as he feeds them endless polos and now apples because I told him off for feeding polos!

Needs the sack but haven't the heart!

I wouldn't sack her. Free labour is hard to come by. No, I would tolerate but when you find yourself on her 'home ground' try to be as annoying. I think the haynet thing is the worst, how could she get something so important so wrong. But then again ... it may be she is deliberately aggrivating you so you do sack her.
 
I think she wants to be sacked!! And she says she can't come over and do my house work plus look after my horses and work a full time job! So lazy!!!

Plus she told me I should hand back my key and stop popping in to raid fridge! So tight!!
