Hi Guys

Need a bit of advice Lexi my GSD nearly 6months has decided she doesnt want to eat anything kibble wise which is very worrying as it the best thing for her whilst she is growing, I have even tried her with Orijen which is 80% meat which she is ok with but doesnt go mad for it, meat on the other hand she will do anything for it, could she survive on just meat alone? I have only been giving it to her cooked what does everyone think about the raw diet? Im not so sure and how do you start introducing this?

Thanks

Liz

p.s hers a piccie of her paddling how does she look for her age!

She looks great in that picture. She is probably just being fussy as she has obviously decided meat is preferable to boring old kibble. You have 2 choices, just keep offering the kibble, leave it down for 15 minutes or so and then take it away, she will soon learn to eat it, or alternatively you could go on to a proper raw diet. CCs Floofy is a bit younger than Lexi and is I think on a totally raw diet, I am sure she will be able to tell you exactly what to feed to give her the right diet for a growing girl.

Have a look at the sticky above re feeding a raw diet, it has lots of useful info.

I swapped my lab across to raw when he was 5 months old & he loves it. She will probably do really well as long as you give her a balanced diet.

Have a read of the above sticky & if you have more questions ask away & someone will help.

"could she survive on meat alone" umm she is a dog...... read the RAW sticky MASSES of info in there, there are also threads on here that say she will leave the kibble, and wait for human food for as long as you continue to give it to her, so dont give it to her and she will eventually return to the kibble- if that is what you want to feed.

Hi Lexie Im not what I want for her all i know is I want her to enjoy eating! Im just wondering if she can survive on meat alone and is it better raw or cooked I will read the raw sticky thanks for that! I just wanted to know who else feeds raw and how does their dog do on it!

Thanks

Loads of em on here do- and all doing amazingly- I will too when I finally get my act together!!

I was just trying to add the other side- feeding raw can be a pain- you have to source it, or pay a higher price on tinternet, etc etc- work out what she will and wont eat raw wise- if you want her to eat her kibble, stop giving in to her and giving her human food- she wont die if she does not eat for a day or two. there was a thread recently about a fussy pooch.... that said the same.

Mine is four months and does great on raw, for instance this week he has been eating chicken wings, chicken legs, minced lamb, beef pieces, eggs, yoghurt, frozen carrots for his teething, pigs ears to chew on, oily fish - he's been on raw since he was weaned and only gets kibble as a reward for good behaviour/during clicker training as it is not too messy and can be kept in my pockets easily.

She looks a good weight, dogs don't tend to starve themselves!

Scan the bargain bins in the supermarket for good deals, do a deal with your butcher, or the trays of Prize Choice tripe/minced dog meat are under £10 for 12 trays in most good pet shops, packets can be broken up into three meals for a baby and two meals for a youngster, maybe one per meal for an adult dog.

Don't stress and don't overface her, offer a handful of kibble if you're determined to feed it, in the morning, if she doesn't eat it, offer another in the evening.

I would say that you are worrying too much. Whilst dogs often get bored with the same type of food, if she is hungry she will eat what you put in front of her. If you make too much of a fuss, you will end up with a fussy dog that you spend a fortune trying to please.

If my dogs don't eat the food that goes down, they don't get anything else. I can assure they eat it. I give them raw food and I give them a quality kibble, they also get scraps from our table, in the form of veg, pasta etc.

There is a lot of us on here who feed raw. I have a large x breed who has been raw since 3.5months doing very well he's 7 months I have also put my 15yr old on raw and he's now keeping weight.and less sicky. Read thread on here and search raw feeding on facebook and Google.

Go the raw way. Dogs thrive on it and they do get all that they need from a balanced raw diet.

I am always getting comments on how well my dogs look and when I say they are raw fed people are shocked - this includes vets!
