Truely the best dog I've ever had passed away on Monday. She was twelve years old,a german bred ,standard poodle. She was an old soul, she arrived after a long flight with me from Austria and owned my house. She never destroyed or messed the house, she just wanted to be my 24/7 sidekick and what a pair we made.
she had the worst health ever...from one year her immune system was a disaster..she had proteus infection that eventually caused skin ulceration, destroyed her kidney function and also her thyroid. She taughtme so much,Yet,despite her problems she was the most intelligent, intuitive dog...obedient,loyal and brave...I salute my girl.

I've learned so much from having this dog...she was a medical nightmare at times...the vet even posted a paper on her...but so worth the trouble and worry we went through.
my otheryoung dog is missing her a lot, howling at times, even with us around...we are looking for a new pup but in Italy the waiting list is long for a health tested dog.We are walking a lot, take him everywhere as we always did with both, and generally trying to get on with life as usual. in the months before she died my hub used to chauffeur my sick girl ,whilst I walk our young dog...so he is used to being walked on his own which has turned into a blessing.

I know this will sound a bit crazy, but the bond you have with a poodle is different to the bond that you'd have with any other breed of dog. They are such people dogs, they seek to be YOURS and for YOU TO BE THEIRS. I'm sorry you've lost this. The fact you kept her going for 12 years despite all her ailments speaks loud and clear about that bond. RIP girlie x

Puccini...so true...she was my second standard,I lostmy other standard girl last year at thirteen.I now have my st.boy who is two and will definitely be getting another poodle, nano size, this spring. I won't have any other breed now, they are so intelligent and empatic and I'm lucky we can share our life here with them. That saying"it's not a dog it's a poodle" is very apt.

So sorry to hear this, we lost our first dog after 13 years at the beginning of this year and I was actually shocked at how tough and heart breaking it is. I think it's harder than horses as dogs are at home with us all the time and there is just no ignoring the hole they leave.
It does get better in time, I look at photos of ours without welling up now!
Sounds like a lovely girl xx

It is a very appropriate saying, and one that they themselves believe.

Best of luck with finding your nano-poodle. I have two minis myself, and can't see my life without them. I've had many other breeds personally and in my family - and nothing compares to the way a poodle looks at their humans.
