was quite surprised as was expecting something very general.
but in summary, I sent a pretty shabby photo of my mare and no indication of what we did together and the reader was mostly very spot on about most things.
" I get the feeling of her needing a light bit, like a snaffle, because although she can be sharp, she isnt heavy on your arms and hates people being heavy on her mouth, she is so light mouthed that you almost have to just use your body and imperceptible movement to change her stride or direction. " This is so so true - I know most horses would probably prefer a light hand but in particular this mare will be guided by body weight etc rather than reins. And she just isnt strong, just very forward going.
"She would have a good jump, but sometimes if she was against the clock her turns might give a few knock downs as she flies round a corner and you cant realign her! She is so willing though!" Went to a jumping clinic and the instructor said exactly this! She loves jumping and is very quick but a little "I know best" sometimes
"Do you know that she is the most human horse I have read for, she is showing me her going through a water jump AND NOT being scared! She seems to be recalling this like you and I would tell others about your favourite holiday, you must praise her a lot, because she is very proud of her work with you. She says we understand each other and that is lovely that you have taken the time to do that!" - She is incredibly brave and has taken me as a very nervous jumper over numerous water obstacles, in particular at xc training where we went through the water a lot!
My thing is dressage at prelim level and she said that my mare knew we were practising for dressage and she tried hard for me even when sometimes I was a bit wobbly - very true! All comments for our dressage are that she is trying hard (and she doesnt particularly like it nor is built for it) and I know I let the partnership down. She also said that she had a good trot - yes definitely her best pace, Although probably true for most horses!
"very little phases her, and that is ridden too, although I can see that she can be sharp and forward going, but that isnt a criticism as I feel that is what you like about her! She is very bold and will try anything for you, which again shows me that she has adjusted herself to your confident way of thinking. She is a horse that you CAN be confident on though isnt she". - Again she is an incredibly laid back horse and doesnt seem to have any hang ups so I would have been surprised if she had brought any quirks up! My confidence has increased ten fold because she does just get on with things so we are doing more and more things together, jumping clinics and shows, TREC, long hacks etc as well as dressage.
She said that she has always "known her job and yes she absolutely does, she just gets on with it and is as always been very sure and brave with whatever I have asked her to do.
The communicator said that she feels the mare has only had a few owners, after being broken in "nicely" but I think she has had at least 4 owners in her 12 years (where she was evented quite consistently). She did say that she really liked her last owner and I agree that this is proabably true as I have had the mare on loan and the owner wanted to be doubly sure that the mare was happy before I bought here and has been very attentive as an owner! So nearly true
"I will now go back to her past and ask her about that, she has gone straight back to being a foal, I feel that she was a loved foal with a good mum, lots of horses completely blank their foal days out, replacing them with other memories of more unhappy times, but she went straight back to her Mum". "There were obviously happy times with her breeder and Mum, and then she shows me herself as a yearling with lots of other yearlings, so that was happy too" Not sure about that - she is quite an aloof mare and took a long time to bond with as she just didnt do humans - I always felt as though I was merely tolerated. Maybe she just prefered her younger days.
Most interestingly the communicator picked up on her breeding which if you saw the photo you would think she is part bog pony, part welsh, part daschund, part shetland and nothing like a TB and she looks nothing special at all. "She is very well bred, that comes up again, and seems important to her (either that or she hears you saying it!!). She is happy about that anyway." "I feel that her Mum was pretty and well bred, there is a feeling that you know her breeding, and I have a feeling that her Mum was mostly Thoroughbred or similarly fine. She was a very smart and quick horse (the Mum) I almost get a feeling of her Dam being either a race horse or from racing stock." - She is wrong about her Dam but actually her sire was a very well bred Irish National Hunt TB who sired some really good event horses including an Olympic medalist. I did do some enquiry in to her breeding and was told that as one of the remaining female progeny of this sire my mare would be a good brood mare prospect.
Overall the communicator said my mare was very happy "I also asked her if there was anything more that you needed to do for her, but no she is really happy!" - This mare has a very relaxed cushy lifestyle believe me with little work and out 24/7 and every whim catered for, and really does seem generally happy with us (i hope!)
So... .what do I feel?? I dont know!! In a way its lovely to think that my mare is happy and I am doing every thing right by her. I am sure I am reading lots of things into the reading (ever the cynic!) but there are some very specific things which the communicator just couldnt have guessed and the things that were slightly off were not much. Very interesting to have done, I must say, and if this lady really does have this gift, she is one amazing lady!!
