My friend rides my horse on her lesson while the instructor rides my friends horse to get her used to traffic Thursday, my girl spooked at a reel of hose and proceeded to canter in fright up a bank, then down it, then around a sharp corner which is when my friend came off. She hasn't broken anything but feels like she has bruised her insides. I feel awful! My girl was in season at the time so not sure if she was more sensitive than usual. I took her out today and she was ok but now I'm worried about riding her when she is in season. If it was me that had the fall, I don't think I would have got back on ever again! Sorry it's a long post!

It is horrible when you feel like a fall is in some way your responsibilty, but there doesn't sound to be any permenant damage done so don't worry too much.

Something to think is this was a freak accident, it may be because your mare is in season but it might be because your horse isn't as confident with your friend as she is with you.

If you are concerned about her being in season and being very hormonal, there are a few supplements on the market that are meant to help :) but I don't know much more about them than that I'm afraid!

Thanks! That's exactly what she said "don't worry it's not your fault!" My friend is actually a better and more confident rider than me so I can't understand why it happened!

Sometimes flukes happen! And just because your friend is more confident than you doesn't mean the horse trusts her more :) if you have a good bond with her then she is less likely to be afraid when you ride anyway.

I have come off my friend's horse before (he bucked with excitement and stumbled... I fell over his shoulder!!) and like you, my friend was horrified! She felt terrible that I had come off! But I didn't mind, I knew the risks of riding and it was just an accident. It sounds like your friend is fine with it so alls well that ends well.

I know how you feel! Although Ned isn't mine yet and isn't my responsibility, I always have a "IT'S ALL MY FAULT!!" moment when I hear someone's fallen off him! (Not happened in a long while, but still)
I'm glad your friend is ok and don't worry yourself :) Spooks/accidents happen :)

She said she is ok. Don't worry, I know you feel bad. We have all hit the deck once or twenty... That's horses. If you can walk afterwards, great. You get back in the saddle.
