My beautiful, darling, lovely, horse died yesterday. 6 days ago she tripped up and each day she got more wobbly behind. On Tuesday my vet told me to take her straight to Liphook Equine Hospital where they said she had a neurological problem, after many tests they said there was nothing they could do. She was pts there at 11.30.

I don't really know what to do with myself. It seems like a bad dream and I am going to wake up and she will still be there.

NFU have been very good, but if you ever think that £5k's worth of insurance is enough, I can tell you it gets gobbled up in one day of tests, before you can blink an eye.

OMG it sounds just like my lovely horse Rommy who was ten and diagnosed with Equine Wobblers following a misdiagnosis of EHV by the vet who was treating him at the time. Within two hours of arriving at Liverpool after comprehensive xrays I was told that he would never be ridden again, I could not keep him alive as he was so ataxic (wobbly on legs) that he was dangerous to be around and the only option was euthanasia. Only a few weeks before he'd been jumping double clears in discovery although in the three weeks before being pts he was very ataxic at times.

My heart goes out to you. My horse looked as fit as a fiddle, his coat gleamed and he couldn't have been more wanted or loved. I miss him every day but his death will have been would have meaning if just one of the students at the hospital (Liverpool is a teaching hospital) will have learnt something from seeing him that day as he was in a very bad way following the journey with quite bad ataxia.

May you run free every day my special little man. I love you always Rommy x

I am so so sorry for your loss and i know exactly how you feel right now and we can all say it will get eaiser but it wont help you now.

Just remeber she is out of pain now and in that big medow in the sky making new friends and everytime it storms it'll be her and her new friends galloping around playing pony games lol Sounds childish but thats how I have always thought of it makes me smile.

Chin up and try and keep smiling
