i have a 7mo foalie who only likes grass and hay.i need him to like something so i can catch him better.at the moment i can catch him in the yard when he follows the others in but cant catch him in the field.
i tried....
chaff,nuts,(dry/damp)carrot,apple,polo,x strong mints,bread,toast,biscuits.
he is getting a taste for sugar beet now,i hope.
others think it`s great to have all his leftovers.the 6 mo eats all the above.

Lol! He isn't that strange you know. I have 40 or 50 horses living here and I'd say that only half of them like any of the foods you have mentioned.

But you are right, every single horse here LOVES the horse treats my daughter bakes for them every week.

Taf saves his carrots and apples to last in his breakfast and tea buckets but he also likes marshmallows and skittles, i'm sure these can't be good for him but I just have to share!!

ive only been there 3 weeks, theyve had apples carrots, cabbage, mints, treats, banana & orange!!!

I don't know to be honest

. I don't have anything to do with cooking the treats. I sometimes see ingredients out though and I know there are molasses, and apples and carrots chopped up small (which they like in the treats, just not normally) and I see oats aswell. How she binds it all together, I don't know - but I can ask her for the recipe if you like? Not sure she actually follows a recipe though but she'll know how she makes them.

any suggestions to tempt him would be good.

The new (ish now) filly had obviosuly not had treats before i got her as she was awfully suspicious of apples and carrots until taf threatened to eat them for her then she ate them enthusiastically! I'm sure the fact that in the last 4 weeks she has had 8 baby teeth out will make it easier for her too

Quite often this is simply a sign that they have never been fed them, If this is the case, they quite quickly 'get a taste' for them

My old pony didn't know how to eat sugar cubes. I had to crush them up in my hand for her to lick off! The resulting gooey mess left on my hand made me decide to stick to carrots from the veg garden
