My Horse Fell in My Swimming Pool Today

I understand your panic and relieved horsey is OK.

I posted last week as my pony escaped and fell through the ice into our pond. Luckily it is very shallow at the edges, about 1ft. Never felt the pond was a danger as it is shallow with safe base and edges. Being iced over certainly changed that!

Glad you are all ok.

Blimey!

Glad he didn't have to wait too long for a rescue!

Thank you everybody. Must admit had a very disturbed night's sleep last night! Merlin seems fine again this morning. Banging on the door for his breakdfast and when I turned him out he was off like a rocket. Polly really is the the heroine. It's the second time she's saved one of our animals life. Last Summer, in the evening, I was in the house and Polly came running in barking madly at me and then running outside again. She did this four or five times and I thought I had better go and have a look. My 12 year old labrador Reggie had somehow got caught up in the boys' football goal post and had the netting wrapped around his neck and was basically drawing his last breath. I managed to cut the netting and he was fine apart from a bit of a cough! She's very special.

Ruddy hell, that’s some first post. I’m now glad my parent’s pool (where we keep the horses) is indoors. It sounds like the kind of thing my cob would do too.

OMG, so glad he is ok and well done you on a brilliant rescue! You'd have thought if he'd have wanted an ice bath....he'd have asked you ...lol!!

Seriously though, glad all o.k!

Welcome and enjoy life on the forum too!

Know where you're coming from! My youngster fell through a pool cover about 20 years ago, I found him doing a strong doggy-paddle towards the deep end, head poking through the cover. Luckily he'll do anything for food, so I stood by the steps at the shallow end rattling a bucket and he obligingly turned and made for it, climbed up the steps, shook the cover off and ran away. Then the pool started leaking...

Wow what an entrance MM (thats 2 of us

). Well done for keeping your head and definitely well done to Polly. My vet was telling me they had to deal with a horse that fell through ice on a pond last week. Had lived in the field for years no problem , they presume the fact there was snow lying meant the mare could not distinguish between field and pond. She was okay though luckily.

What a fab dog! And very sensible pony not panicking, not to mention super quick thinking owner

Well done you, think you deserved those G&Ts!!
