My horse who i have had for 6 years is going out on loan tomorrow, am gutted he is the best personality and hack ever but really don't think he wants to compete and it is not fair on him to expect him too. If I could keep 2 horses i would but it is impossible.

He is going to a lady who wants to hack, do pleasure rides and enjoy him but part of me really feels like i have let him down, just went outside to say goodnight to him and burst into tears, don't know how i am going to leave him at new place tomorrow.

After having him six years you are bound to be upset, but it sounds like you have found a great new home for him and that he'll be happy in his new life.

Listen, I had a horse called Jack. Bought him to learn on and to do flat work, schooling etc. Trouble was, amongst other things, he was ex riding school and absolutely BALLY SICK of flat work etc.Just didn't want to do it. Felt sorry for him but we weren't getting on. Sold him to the most marvellous home where there is no school in site (and gained a new friend as well) and he is soooo happy. Have been to see him and what I did was truly the best for BOTH of us. Hopefully your story will be the same.Just think of it as giving him new and better oportunities in life. You would hate being forced to do something you didn't like (however well meant people may be) and your horse is the same. You are being unselfish. Give him a big kiss, let him go and move on. Go and see him if you can once he is settled in his new home.Think you will be very pleasantly suprised.

I put my old horse that I had for 12 years - out on loan last Sept. I was so upset for a few days I managed to make myself ill (didn't help that I hadn't got a replacement). I also felt really guilty that just because he can now only be a happy hacker - I didn't keep him. But his new owner is totally in love with him and I now have a new one to compete - he is happy - I am happy - everything worked out for the best.

Also - he is only around the corner so i can see him whenever I like.

It will get easier xx

I shared my pony with a girl and eventually sold him to her and he is so much happier with just one mum. SPent ages with him the mprning b4 he left. But luckily my other pony came back from being schooled the same day so i had something to take my mind off of it!
