Strange post, but does anyone else out there have a horse who tries to SIT on the wheelbarrow? My horse follows me around in the field and actually reverses into the barrrow and tries to lift her legs up into it! She isn't itchy or anything because she doesn't do this with the trough in the field or on anything else..just the wheelbarrow! Her previous owner said she has always done it, and she also does it in the stable too.

Will get a piccie at some point and post it on here!

I have a shetland who likes to scratch his doh dah on the handles... Mind you he does have some gross habits! He will also back into you if you are holding a shavings fork to ask you to scratch his bottom for him. I sometimes think he is a reincarnated pig.

Yes she does that - she follows you around the stable pushing her bum in your face asking for it to be scratched..she scared a vet half to death when she did it to him as she is quite large and it's a bit daunting to be hemmed into a corner!

Same! My shetland mare does both these things too! Quite gross. And she always tips the barrow over :(

I DO!!!
My mare started doing it last winter when she was on box rest and I was mucking out with her in the stable. She would come over to the wheelbarrow, stretch her head over the handles like she was about to scratch her chin, but not and just sort of hover there. Then she would start to move herself around to try and stand over the wheelbarrow. Sometimes she would stand with the handles between her legs, others, manage to stand with the wheelbarrow right under herself.

Not sure if this video will work or not, but worth a shot. (Sorry its on its side for the 1st part of it and for the poor quality.)

Did get quite annoying when I was in a rush and she knocked it over just as I was finishing a few times.
She definately isn't itchy, or trying to scratch. At times when she did it, she almost went into a sort of trance.

Corriehorse, that is EXACTLY what my girl does but just the other way round - she backs into it and lifts her back legs up into it! She goes into a sort of strange mood when she does it - she stares back at the barrow and goes all silent!! I can't push her away either - she just puts all her weight even further backwards and tries even harder!!

I find it quite funny (until she tipped it over a few times!) but I think other people find it a bit perturbing understandably!

Relieved to know other people have to endure this fetish!! :D

Ohhh yes , thats my horses fav pastime !!! while im mucking out if i turn my back for more than 5 seconds , shes got her leg up into the wheelbarrow and has pulled it over , meaning i then have to put all the Poo back into the wheelbarrow again ,,, my horse thinks its great fun !!

Lol thats really funny!

We have one well two actually on the yard that love to play with them. I was schooling my mare the other day and all i could hear was bang, bang, bang....i thought my YO was stuck or having trouble with the barrow and trying to get my attention so i got off my mare and lead her into the stable block and no sign of my YO but her horse with the tipping barrow in his mouth....he had been lifting it up and dropping it and when i cam round the corner and caught him like a rabbit in the headlights with it in his mouth he froze and dropped it and looked around as if to say it wasnt me!....So i moved it up the corridor, i went back schooling and the next thing i know....bang, bang, bang....one of the youngsters was playing with the handles in his mouth....next thing the barrow was thrown right over.....so i had to confiscate them to the end of the block!! they both looked like stroppy toddlers who had had their toys confiscated! naughty boys!!

She's not been trained to pull a cart has she? I know of someone who had a horse that would reverse itself into the handles and wait to be fastened up ;) There's a picture floating around on the net somewhere...

Oh yes, my boy has a wheelbarrow obsession. When stabled he used to carefully and slowly back up into the barrow......I thought it was because he was originally trained to pull a trap, as he is a Russian Trotter

Now he is out 24/7, his new obsession with the barrow is to charge at it and then prance around it  the foool
