As above, really. I have a 3.5t renault master conversion horsebox, which my horse travels in perfect.. on her own. But we tried her in it with another mare (who is really calm and friendly) and I dont think I've ever seen her panic so much in her life! We hadnt even closed the doors yet!

She'd kicked some of the rubber matting off the walls, broke the twine she was tied to and was all wide eyed and snorting. My question is, can this be overcome?

She is fine stuffed in a 7.5t with 3 other horses but not in the 3.5 with only one other there! This makes me think she gets claustrophobic and panicked about the space. But I'm not sure... please help!

Your horse is probably more aware of overloading horseboxes than you are, it may well have moved and felt unstable when the other horse went in, not many 3.5t can take 2 horses without going over the weight limit so unless you are sure you can travel 2 there is not point in trying to persuade her to have a companion in there with her. Not many 7.5t can take 4 so something else to consider when taking her out.

I agree with be positive - you are likely overweight with 2 in a 3.5t unless they are small ponies.Overloading would make the box very unstable.

We worked out that it could take about 1100 kilos including ourselves. The two horses were similar in weight and together dont weigh nearly that much. They are not big horses. She used to be in a riding school which is why I know she is happy to travel in a big load, not because I've done so myself. But thanks for your reply.

I may try her in the other side and see how she gets on :) If anyone else has any suggestions please let me know!

I agree with the others about being over weight, I have a Renault Master 3.5 t lorry not the van type and I wont travel both of my horses together on it, I have a small 15h Arab and a large 16.3 warmblood, I would only take a very small pony with the Arab, the other horse just about fits in and would only travel her alone, and mine is very well made and sturdy not a conversion it was coach built from new, They are just not big enough for two horses really.

She is a 15.2 warmblood but a very mareish mare - squeals and kicks everything in the field! Would her feeling unbalanced in an overloaded lorry cause her to take it out on the horse beside her? I personally feel that she was more aggrovated by the presence of the other horse rather than anything else.. maybe I should have made it clearer, she was making faces at the other horse etc

I have a van conversion which has a payload of 1200kgs - this can take my 2 x 14.2hh easily!

If you travel her on her own do you keep the partition in or take it out and give her the whole space? If she is used to the whole space then imagine another horse is making her feel claustrophobic.

Will she travel with another horse in a trailer?

Whatis he like when he is in a stable ?
I would see how she is In a pen with another horseand sslowly reduce the size of the pen they are put i n together until it is like a horse box setup xx :-)

Sidney I know, theyre good boxes - people just like to exaggerate on here ;) I keep the partition in when I travel her, so it shouldnt be a space issue. My friend suggested that she's got comfortable with it being her own area, and she sees is as the other horse invading this space which would make sense.

Myponywilliam she is massive bitch with other horses and I dont think I'd ever risk the other horses safety by forcing it in a close space with her. She is happy enough with humans. To be totally honest I think the only thing I can do is try and get her used to it lol! Thanks x

Then I think your problem is that she just doesn't like other horses in 'her space', and in the confines of 3.5t this is probably exacerbated.

Tbh I am not sure if it is a problem you can solve as inherrent in her personality - as somome else suggested maybe try penning her next to another and reducing the space until she feels comfortable, but would proceed with cauition as she is obviuosly telling you she is not happy with the situation.

Good luck!
