Does anyone else own one?

It's that time of year when everything starts getting wet and soggy, all rather depressing.

Most horses like a good roll and thats fine.

Mine however finds the wettest part of the field, usually the bit where the water doesn't drain off, digs a hole and gets in it...

Today he come in more mud than horse.. he was soaked, caked and his mane and tail were just mud dread locks!

Worse part is he looked happy about it too!

Anyone else got one of these horses?

Yes me. Spent over an hour trowelling mud off her neck and legs this evening, I can still taste it now. Not sure why I bothered because she will do the same tomorrow.

I am tempted to pull her mane really short for the winter, its just a normal length at the moment. I can't be bothered raking out the mud every evening, dirty mare.

The combo rug comes out tomorrow, I don't care how warm she gets, she's being wrapped up :)

Yup. My retired Ardennes. I give up grooming about now and just wait for the mud to fall off when he moults in Spring.

I think there is a hippo gene in him somewhere. It's always the mud with poo soaked in it that he rolls in too.

Yes, I have two first cross TB x hippopotamus, and both are exceedingly adept at getting mud way up under their rugs. Just to add my joy I also have a GSD x hippo who loves to wallow in any muddy puddle she can find!

yep, my half tb mare is an absolute mud monkey, even with a neck cover on she manages to get most of her mane plastered...im sure she lifts her rug up and rubs as much of her body in the mud as possible...i ride most mornings so every evening is spent getting as much off as possible so i have a bit less to do in the morning.....luckily she is bay with no white at all..

Awful isnt it.

I bought mine in to ride yesterday and he was wet half way under his rug. I cleaned him off and tried to dry him off a bit but we went on our hack looking half horse half wet rugrat.

I should of got a picture of it and posted it. Going to wash his tail today and going to attempt to make it a tad greasy so mud finds it harder to stick to it. Im sure it won't work but ill give it a go!

Both my Arabs wallow in the mud I cover them in coat shine it just helps when you have to chip it off, one of mine even manages to cover the front of his face with mud he must do head stands in it.

Called mine up from the very bottom of the hill the other day. All horses came galloping up to the gates, except mine - who stopped half way to roll in a pit of mud. Then got up and continued on his way up to the gate to see me.

I was in disbelief.

My highland will dig himself a mud wallow at the first opportunity. He is clipped and rugged but manages to get every little bit of him that isnt covered in rug, covered in ground in mud. I have covered his mane, tail, feathers, ears and face in pig oil, his tail is worn in a loose plait or with a tailgator over it but even with all this effort, he is the boggiest, most disgustingly dirty pony I have ever owned!!

My Highland and Exmoor share a field , exmoor comes in with barely a speck of mud, highland comes in with mud dreadlocks and Clumps of mud wherever he's not been covered. Maybe its the weight difference and he collects more mud as he rolls
