Hi

My horse is broken, hes got mild arthritus in his hock and has had cortisone injections which worked and then he started to get worse, so went back for tildren, and so far this has shown a slight improvement, is it gradual? Or if it hasn't worked 2-3 weeks in its not going to?

My farrier put spavin shoes on him and he has been really really unhappy, to the point he threw me off, could these affect him so much? Or am I thinking its these because they are different. I'm not sure what to do, there isn't anything else the vets can do for him, but for mild arthritus this all seems a bit extreme. Any advice is welcome, not sure whether to have the spavin shoes taken back off and see what hes like then its only been 3 days since he had them on.

Have you tried him on a daily dossage of Danilon, and spoken to your farrier about the horses aparent unhappiness over the shoes??

My horse had spavin and it takes about 12 to 24 months for the joints to fuse and become pain free. When the condition first flares up it can be extremely painful, it also depends on the horse, some are more stoic than others.

My horse had lateral extensions for his BS (hock arthritis).

Because of the sore hocks, back and hip pain can be present as the horse avoids trying to bend his hocks and can have an altered gait. My horse's physio explained this to me and this is something to consider.

Hi

Yes have spoken to farrier and he is going to come back out to see him. What is Danilon?

Danilon is an alternative to Bute.
