hi i have a 17hh 6yo irish sports cross he has never been lame but i have noticed that when he is walking he tends to drop his right hip, it doesnt happen in trot, canter or gallop so im a little confused, could it just be the way he walks?
i have a regular osteopath that is treating his shoulder at the moment (poor lad slipped in the field and pulled his ribcage and shoulder ourof alignment) do you think he could help or do i need a vet? my last vet disregarded it and said he needed more muscle tone... he also rests his back legs quite a lot while standing in his stable or on the yard.

anyone had any experience with this?

thanks for reading :)

For a start I'd be getting a new osteopath.... shoulder and rib cage out of alignment?! Seriously?!
I can't really envisage what it is he's doing with the hip but if he's sound and the vet is happy then I'd just continueto build up his strength and not worry too much about it.

Sounds just like our 16.2 WB's symptoms.I have a very good chiropractor who sorts him out.He does need maintenance about every 2/3 months. He has been assessed at the vets twice and had xrays to rule out other causes. Also,if your Chiropractor is good, they should facilitate remedial ridden instruction to help the rider assist the horse to work effectively. This is particularly useful if we consider how horses have to not only carry a rider, but also perform all sorts of disciplines.Riders can be unbalanced themselves(not in the mental sense) which will affect the way the horse moves.

thanks for your advice would love to hear those results from alma if you could :)

he doesn't have bone spavin as vet has done frequent flexion tests on him so can rule that out but thanks for the info i can be more aware of that in the future.

im looking into how i ride him atm but i dont know if its partly me, i put more weight on my left side than my right and it is his right hip he doesnt move so well but i fully agree that we as riders need to look into how we affect our horses.

would love still to hear from other people who have had similar experiences :)
