Went out for a hack this afternoon to which a large tractor and trailer arrived behind us on the road. So me and the other girl pulled our horses into a small grassy inlet to let him past. Kenny is not great with heavy traffic but he stood and watched the tractor go past with no dancing, bolting, spinning etc which i was very proud of :) he is getting much better.

Carry on our hack and further ahead we see 2 women and their 2 toddlers who are poddling up the track towards us. Of course, these 2 toddlers are miles scarier than the big tractor and trailer combo. Cue Kenny, eyes on stalks, refusing to move an inch then when he does its jogging on the spot, snorting etc. Kids pass and we're back to gently enjoying out hack!

According to him he is 5 so therefore does not need a reasonable explanation... but i really dont get him sometimes!

How is he with killer speed bumps and drain covers :D a few weeks back the old boy I ride was going through his end of hack tugging at the reins so I let them loose and he stretched his head right down to the road. Unfortunately there was a drain cover right under his nose and he promptly jumped 6" straight up with all four feet and I almost fell off with laughter. He then carried on walking as though pretending it hadn't happened. :D

Aren't they all !?! Mine would happily throw himself in front of a bus to avoid a crisp packet that he didn't like the look of!

I'm sure a squrriel / pheasant has never eaten a horse - but you try to tell them that !!

a duck is something to worry about to the extent of trembling and cantering round the livery car park! However the jcb that the yo uses to bring the hay/straw into the barn is fine and she can even put her head over the wall to look at it!

anything travelling at speed passed us is fine but a different shade of green in the hedge is really scary! also a piece of tree that has fallen off results in the biggest shy of my life! I almost ended up face first into a tree opposite!

lol :D

My old share mare was good with bikes and if someone cycled out with her she got attached and wouldn't go anywhere without the bike... but the second someone got off a bike the thing was a moster

They are very strange creatures.

Annoyingly the share mare was also good at picking up spooks and taking the mick. Absolutely perfect normally but if riding out with one particular horse would not go near a drain... would spook a few times in a row, then forget to do it!

I had a scary moment today when a Swan (which i'm petrified of) decided to launch itself at my feet when I was riding.....the horse just looked at it with disdain! Later on she spooked at a scarecrow.....which she goes past everyday! Weirdo lol

My Arab has calmed down a lot now but when I got him as a youngster, he was as spooky as a spooky thing on National Spooky Day, but there was never any logic to it. Our hacking week would go something like...

Monday: Hello trees, hello sky, hello wheelie bin, hello carrier bag, hello cows…EEEK! Purple flowers! RUN!
Tuesday: Hello trees, hello sky, hello carrier bag, hello cows, hello purple flowers…EEK! Wheelie bin! RUN!
Wednesday: Hello trees, hello sky, hello wheelie bin, hello cows, hello purple flowers…EEK! Carrier bag! RUN!
Thursday: Hello trees, hello sky, hello wheelie bin, hello carrier bag, hello cows…EEK! Purple flowers! RUN!
Friday: Hello trees, hello sky, hello wheelie bin, hello carrier bag, hello purple flowers…EEK! Cows! RUN!
Saturday: EEK! Trees! RUN! EEK! Sky! RUN! EEK! Wheelie bin! RUN! EEK! Carrier bag! RUN! EEK! Cows! RUN! EEK! Purple flowers! RUN!
Sunday: Hello trees, hello sky, hello wheelie bin, hello carrier bag, hello cows, hello purple flowers. Ooh, are we home already?

Yah gotta love 'em.

My big lad loves motor bikes but I don't know why as he's never known anyone who owns one. He's also terrified of cattle but the smaller the cow the scarier it is!

Sheep are another thing he doesn't like. And we can't forget that very distressing time when the piece of newspaper blowing in the wind was after him! These posts have had me laughing out loud, keep them coming!

BB you've hit the nail on the head :-D.

Thats my Boyo all over..

He'll pass buses, fire engines, tractors, motorbikes, vans, hgvs no problem but if a leaf is in a different place from the previous day he goes into ponio meltdown

Annie is terrified of bins! wheelie bins, litter bins, any kind of bin!! she practicaly fell over a post once, got her back legs wrapped around it, to get away from a little bin at the side of a footpath! and wheelie bins with flowers on?! meltdown moment!! Threw herself into the road to escape one once!!
