Hi everyone. Yesterday was the first time I've ridden in a while, bar once in the school for 10 mins and a walk up the path last weekend. She felt like she was nodding a bit but then she was ok so I thought it was probably me being over-conscious. However, took her out this morning and had a little canter, and when I brought her back to trot she was obviously lame on her front right. So I walked her home and trotted her up back at the yard and she's definiely lame.

I don't really know what I'm looking for on here but I just wanted to get it off my chest cos I'm really worried and I feel so guilty as I should have done something about it yesterday.

Thanks

It was probably not a good idea to canter out after having a while off work. I know hinesight is a godo thing, but many peopel seem to think they can get on there horses after a while off and resume as normal.

Hopefully it isnt a tendon/ligament problem. I would get a vet out asao if you have not already.

It may not be anything serious at all. Is there any swelling? How much turn out has she been having while not being excercised? Has the ground been too hard for her to move around properly during her rest? Sorry, lots of questions but if she has lots of fluid in her legs from standing around too much, then that could be what's making her lame. Give her a couple of days rest and she may be all better

Hope she gets well soon.

It wasn't the plan to have a canter, she just got a little over excited. I'd planned to start off slowly as she's old and gets a bit stiff on her hindlegs so I was just walking short distances really but had a little trot which became a couple of strides of canter

Thanks everyone, I'm gonna trot her up again in the morning and hope to see some improvement
