Hey everyone, first post here and I'm looking for advice on my grey pony.
I've tried every shampoo, from human to horse shampoo to get her white/cream.
She lays on the same side to sleep and always lays in her poop! The staining just will not come out. I'm at the point of thinking of clipping her now. We are hoping to do a show next month and I can't take her like that.
I've tried washing liquid, purple shampoos, blue shampoos, purple masks, ketchup, white vinegar to name a few.

Is there anything I can put on her to avoid this? I've even tried a turnout rug.

I'm loosing my mind here 🙈🤣.
Any advice appreciated

Thank you.

Are you in a clay area?

You may just have to embrace the colour if you have tried everything. I had a grey and if going to a show, Tesco's antibacterial lemon wipes were very useful!!

Am assuming you are using hot water too? Cowboy magic stain remover is supposed to be good. Human dry shampoo? I would also spray with a coat gloss to ward off the worst of the stains.

I'm not really sure about clay area if I'm honest. Ideally she would be out but we live in South West Wales. It's so boggy here atm. Yes I've used jot water and cowboy magic. I think I need something to stop it sticking to it somehow.

Would you recommend a gloss I could use.

Thank you for your reply

If it’s a poo stain then once it’s set on a grey it’s very hard to remove unfortunately. Mine sleep in no fill turnout rugs in the stable and are skipped out at 10pm (they’re at home) and they still get poo stains! I try and get them off asap with hot water and shampoo. Clipping might be your best bet!

I second Cowboy Magic and hot water! We had two showing, a grey connemara and grey show hunter, rugged up in lightweights and hoods did prevent most of the stains.

I use a dollop of red horse honey heel

And add a bit of shampoo to it to make it go further, if I need to. It’s a very white, sticky paste which seems to strip the dirt and almost stain the hair white.
