My horse is terrified of Poles and nothing is working!

I used to ride a pony like this. He could jump like a stag but was always terrified of poles. Had the owner off more times than you can count as he'd just drop a shoulder. If you wanted him to actually get over a fence, you had to ride him in a very specific way. He'd jump he'd own height easy and then come out the day after and refuse a pole on the floor. It was fascinating in a sense. He was eventually sold as a dressage pony.

I rode him on and off for about 4 years and he never changed.
