she will refuse quite alot and when she actully does the jump she jumps it at 5ft im a confident rider are there any exersises that i can do to help this ? thanks

Id do some grids start small both in size and number and build up so she has to think. If you get her confidence up over the little ones she shouldnt refuse as it steadily gets bigger, and she will learn she cant soar off the first fence or she wont make it up for the second (make sure you sit back and keep your lower leg on after the first fence when she figures this out for the first time as she may plant at the second - shouldnt happen if you start with small crosspoles though). Start with trot grids as she will find it harder to soar over them or rush and will give her time to think about what her legs are doing, then progress to canter when she has settled. Dont rush it you dont need to start with big jumps or cantering in the first session you dont want to overface her and go back to square 1 but eventually aim to have her popping maybe crosspole, crosspole, oxer, crosspole, crosspole so it can be jumped both ways too :) once you've got it start to build up the height, its not usually height that puts the horse off (usually more the rider!), more that they aren't confident what to do with their legs/ how to get over it and if its big they know they wont make it scrambling. Oh and if she stops at the small height make her jump it without turning away but ask her to reverse a few steps if she is right in front of it as she wont be able to see it otherwise!

Hope this helps :) its what I do when teaching people with green/young horses, and with my mare when I started teaching her to jump and she got overconfident and used to rush, take off miles back and jump huge (i was lucky shes not the refusing type).
