My boy has a lot going on at the moment. He has allergies to dust mites, which he is being treated with immune therapy. He was diagnosed with arthritis in the hocks which he has had steroids for and is having another injection next week.

But thats not the worry. I feel he just isnt right, he has a thick coat already and gets hot when walked out. He is overweight and has no hard feed except a sprinkle of Alfa A Lite for his supplements and bute if he needs it, his hay is soaked for 8 hours and has it weighted and doubled netted, he is weeing more since soaking the hay this long. He is turned out for 7hours and the field is bald. I ride him 6days a week but not intense work due to his hocks. He seems to be getting fatter and looking pot belly, he is loosing muscle tone from the lack of schooling but is still working correctly when I ride him.

His coat is not stary, got nice dapples and a shine.

I will speak to my vet when she injects his hocks.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

He has more of a barrel than fat pads.

I have got him being tested next week from bloods and urine. He's always had a thick coat as hes a native but coats been fine in summer. He's ages is unknown but roughly 15.

Thanks guys, i am getting him tested next week.

My worry is that hes having steroids and he might not be able to have them.

This is interesting , my mare is also really overweight... She is on a bare paddock overnight and on for 8-10 hours aday and has fat pockets, she is 27 and has back problems so a light hack once a week for 20 mins and lunged 3 or 4 times a week but she's hairyer than usual and this fat just won't move it's been the same for about 5 months.. X
