How come horses always have the best/worst timing

At 7oClock this AM . I arrived at the yard to find Sol gone from her field

<-- cue that reaction .
I then walked up to her proper field (she was in the invaliad field for the night - anothe long story) and she wasnt in there !!!

Then phone YM to check he hadn't moved her and he said no at 10 last night she was in the field .
Cue me being very panicy that she'd been nicked (she had a h.c on and she rather nice

)
So I spent an hour checking bushes / hedgerow / fields to find her with no luck
The yard has 300 acres of land and she could be ANYWHERE .
We finally found her un-scathed apart from a nick on her leg .

But anyone got any tips on how to keep her in the field

She managed to clear a 5 foot post and rail fence

YM will kill me if I ask for a bigger fence

I've done the same! My old mare used to come when I called, but one more I walked the whole field (180 acres) trying to find her. Was getting really annoyed as just assumed she was nipping off when she saw me coming. Then walked back towards the gate to find her screaming at me from teh woods on teh wrong side of the fence! Then took me 1 1/2 hours to find a way out of the woods (there was no gate), stupid horse couldn't remember how she got in! Ended up really late for work and ripped my jods in the process.

OMG - I would've died on the spot. Can just imagine how you were feeling whilst looking for her!

Did she pop out because it was invalid paddock and presumably less grass? Hopefully she'll stay put once in usual field.

Well the field actually has more grass
crazy.gif
as we only have one 'broken' horse and she is on BoxRest

So Sol was sent out to graze it down with another horse.
Where we found her there is no grazing is a bare strip of grass on the boundries of the farm /. So we can't really understand

O my !! What a naughty girl !!

Can totally understand if your tummy was doing backflips and the like

I would have been beside myself in that situation

That sounds very stressful - perhaps she did not like the other horse or was getting bullied?

If she had a friend that she could bond with that might stop her going anywhere.
