My 8yo ex racer, Baz, hasn't been ridden for over 6 weeks since he last went hunter trialling with the girl who's been riding him whilst I'm pregnant. I decided to give him a few months off and chucked him out in the field to become furry and chill out. I've brought him up and lunged him about once a week to just keep him occupied a bit but he hasn't really worked at all.
I waddled down to the yard yesterday and the girl who rides him was upset as her horse had gone lame and she fancied a ride so I said for her to get on him and offered to lunge first to take the fizz off
. She said she thought he'd be fine and hopped on and we went into the school. I didn't have a full bridle with me so he was without noseband, martingale etc
.
Well, he immediately dropped into a really nice outline and powered round the school in a fab trot with a nice bit of extension up the long side. Then she asked him for cnater and next thing I know he's doing flying changes and generally being a dressage diva
. Not one hint of fizziness, just lots of good work - who says TB's are difficult?!
I think I am officially in love with my horse and can't wait to get back on in the new year
