I have mine in as the pony is on box rest so they both have to be in......it has taken the worry out of 'to rug or not'!!

box rest is a badf word to me grr my mare stood on herself and broke her spint bone requiring surgery she as now done 6 weeks weeks box rest and got six to go before she is re assest so its a nightmare but you are right it takes the worry out of rugging up but the cold mare is in foal so best out on the good grass to give her a good start to allow the foal to grow well insude her if you know what i mean

Yes, my horses have been cold at night over the last two weeks. They are stabled at night and already in lightweight stable rugs, in August, not good!

My boy has not been too bad, not so warm in the rain but I figure he has a field stable he can go into if he wants...although prefers to stand out in the rain...so it can't be that bad for him. I don't tend to need to rug him until October whent the weather becomes cold wet and windy. And I know when he is feeling it because his mood will change over night and he will become very grumpy and mardy...it is extremely obvious and as soon as the rug goes on he is back to his normal nice self.

I've brough my three-quarter TB in by night as its been so wet and he's prone to cracked heels. His stable is warm and he doesnt need a rug yet by night. A few weeks ago when the weather was chilly I put his lightweight on by day but at the mo he seems warm enough without, but this could change.

Im still sleeping with my window wide open- i have roof windows so thats alot of cold getting in! If im surviving to the point where im still boiling at night then the ponies sure as hell arent needing rugs!
