i've had my boy 11 weeks now and every day he's been a dream to catch, more recently he will take a few steps towards me when he sees me coming. he's been a lovely ride out hacking, altho can get very excited when he gets to our canter places or turns for home. his spooks are mild and just silly. the last couple of weeks my kids have been away, so i've been riding more or less every day. i do a different route every time and sometimes we'll walk the whole way, other times we'll hve a flat out blast, so he never knows quite what's coming and as he's very forward going, i like to walk our canter places quite regularly.
anyway, today, as i approached him in the field, he walked away from me!! i was stunned. i caught him easily enough after he stopped for a poo. he wudnt open his mouth to take the bit, so i stood there waggling my finger on his tongue for ages! then when i lead him out the farm, he stopped several times, he stopped once out riding, pretending to be scared of something that wasnt there! then when we turned for home, he did his normal routine of wanting to canter downhill thru rabbit holes! he stays under control, just goes sideways and jumps about as if having a tantrum at being made to walk! then when we were in sight of home, he decided that a tiny piece of plasitc which blew into the road was a horse eating monster. it mustve gone under his feet coz i felt his front end come up and then he did this almighty leap over it!!! i found it quite funny, apart from being on the road at the time. once we were home he relaxed again. but then one of his herd mates, got taken out for a quick walk and he was calling her like mad. i'd never heard him do this before!
do you think he was telling me he wanted a day off? altho he had yesterday off! he is competition fit as thats what he did in his previous home. or was he just trying it on a bit? altho that seems strange after 11 weeks.........

it sounds like he has settled in and he is just playing you to see what he can get away with!!

yeah he comes in just for fusses and food. usually i only ride 2 - 3 times a week but as my kids hve been away, i've been riding almost everyday. i jst wondered if he was saying leave me alone!!! altho he's more than fit enough to be ridden everyday. im riding again tomorrow, so it'll be itneresting to see shat he's like then.

Mmmm - do all horses have a 'honeymoon period'? I know mine did - he didn't put a foot wrong for about 2-3 months then he started to show his true colours!
Luckily - I liked his true colours!
It sounds like he's a lovely natured chap but is now showing what his character can be like!
