I have had my horse for quite a few months now, she is my first horse, when i got her she still needed a bit of schooling but she was very used to the lunge, but the last few times I have lunged her she has not even been willing to trot let alone canter all she dose is a lazy half hearted trot and when I as for canter she ether walks or bolts i end up having to keep a very short line to keep her trotting, I don’t get it as she is fine ridden and I have lunged her before perfectly. She is a lazy horse and if she can get away with being slow and sleepy she will because she was not ridden much where we got her from, but if she wants to go she will now she is slowly getting better ridden I just want to know if any one has any tips for lunging her.

Hi,
I sometimes get a similar response from my mare! It turns out that it isn't her fault, but is much more down to my body language when lunging her - tbh I hadn't realised that I could affect her so much in this way. I have had several lessons and the change is fantastic, nice crisp transitions and she works forwards in a much better way. I would recommend getting someone to teach you, it is really suprising the difference tiny changes make!

That's really interesting, my pony has just learnt to lunge and is doing well but yesterday was really really lazy, but now that I think about it i've not been well and had no energy myself and could barely muster up the effort myself! Must have been me being lazy not Tigger!

Have you tried longlining to give a bit more variety on the lunge so to speak as you can keep changing direction and move the circles around or go straight etc
