My rising 5 yr old is hacking out in front and is really confident, but wont have a wee when out. His strides start to get short, and he throws his head, and I can feel his back come up. Poor little chap to day was busting to go. We were hacking all off road and I took him on short grass and long grass, but no good. I even got off him and undid his girth a bit but still no good.

I could tell he was un comfortable as he kept on stopping and throwing his head.

When we got back to the yard, as soon as he went in the stable he did an huge wee, poor little chap.

Any one got any ideas????

My horse won't either, and I can be out all day hunting, and she *still* wont wee until she gets back to the yard!!....No ideas I am afraid!!

No answers to your problem, but you have made me wonder if that was what was wrong with my girl the last 2 long hacks we went on. Towards the end she started to toss her head alot - for no apparent reason.

Back at the yard on Friday she jiffled and jiffled until she finally peed on the concrete (I've not known her to do that ever), yesterday when she started jiffling on the yard I popped her into her stable where she peed straight away.

I look forward to any posted solutions to the problem, as I bet she won't pee on a hack either.

Don't think there is much you can do about it I'm afraid!

My boy has done it with me once. We hacked for an hour to college, did some dressage, then hacked an hour back and on the way back he decided he just couldn't hold it anymore! My old mare would always wait until she was back at they yard.

A pony I used to ride would only pee with a select few people that he trusted, and with everyone else he would hold it in and start getting quite short and choppy. Maybe as he grows up he will give up trying to hold it in! :)

No, mine won't either. I know he needs to, because he feels sluggish, but he just won't. Even if I get off and lead him into some long grass.

He did just once over a year ago, when I think his bladder would've burst if he didn't but he looked mortified about it!

All the other geldings I've had quite happily pee-d for England whenever (often at the worst possible moment:D)

So. Not much help to you - sorry...:o

Mine doesn't even like to stall, if he is desperate he will, but you can tell he hates it. A wee is out of the question!!! He is 17!

try whistling when you take him in the long grass

just what I was about to suggest... rather than a tune, just kind of "warble" or "trill" if you know what I mean?

Ron never ever pees away from home unless he's truly busting, and then he'll only go in the trailer! He doesn't pee if there's someone in the stable. He gets cross and fidgety and digs up his bed until you leave!

Tom however, has no such problem and will happily have 3 wee's while on an hours hack. He will quite literally get it out anywhere. He's like a small child, he can't walk properly if he needs a wee, but he has to wait for the right spot to come along before he'll go.:o

They are beggars aren't they? As I said on another thread, Mum's old pony was at his happiest peeing in a bucket. Yes, I've tried the warble, the chirrup, the trill, the baby bird whistle... he just looks at me in mild consternation as if he should call the little men in white coats straight away...:o

At least you dont have a mare that is quite happy to stop mid trot and pee happens quite often, if you gotta go you have gotta go.

*laughs* Sounds about right! Years ago, I had a mare I used to hunt. She would ALWAYS wait until the end of 15mins of hanging around..... the whole field would leave at the gallop just as Madam decided she needed a pee.....

I would then spend the next 5 minutes catching up with my eyes closed, leaving it up to her to lift her legs at the right time over the fences...hopefully....:D

Oh well guys, guess Im not the only one. Tried whistling but that dosent help either. f I take him out in the lorry he wees as soon as I load him, splashes everywhere, but he seems to rather do that then when out, silly bugger!!.
May be he will get better as he gets older.
