Just bought a new horsebox and took it out on Sunday, after a lovely ride o the beach we loaded them back up and my horse got ontop of the lockers and put his head through the ceiling,we set off straight away and he travelled home fine, although I was very upset and am now panicking about what to do.my horsebox is lovely and have waited along time for it and am very upset, any advice anyone please?

I had to rescue a horse off the internal lockers in the car park of a local show, the horse was not helping the situation either! I have never liked the idea of internal tack lockers within the horse area and this situation inthe car park confimered why I would never buy a box with internal tack lockers in horse area. Mine are built into the living area you can get to them from outside and inside. I know they are very common these days so I'm sure I'm in the minority and others will have ideas on what thye do.

Have the top of the locker changed so it's at an angle and covered in a slippy surface ( not checker plate) mine is thick plastic the locker climber then just slips off .
You can also hobble and I have known several competion horses who had to travel hobbled for various reasons obviously you have to a customn them to the hobbles carefully.
It's extremely irritating .

How annoying for you, so upsetting and a bit frightening. Does your locker run the full length? If it does you may be able to just shorten the locker on one side if only one horse doing it. I have a lorry thats had the locker removed as they personally get in my way too, I am happy to send pics of the inside. One of my friends horse did what yours did it and it has been remedied by putting a lower ring on the side of the locker, still tying to string/elastic but keeping the head lower.

Slanty lockers are definitely better.

Or, big haynet in front of his face to buffer it and fill the space more, I know it sounds mad but thats what another friend does, the horse can get his face to one side, but it really helps.

How were your partitions, could you give him less/more room and maybe just take him out for a quick local spin to practise.

Yes I think a lot are built too low and some are like an inviting flat shelf higher and sloping and they dont seem to be a problem, and taking them out maybe isn't the answer some horses get wound up and rear, a friend had this problem without tack lockers ended up with a horses head shape hole in the lorry roof !!! keep em busy with a haynet and use a trailer tie bungey with the quick release ends seems to be the best way to deal with the problem...
