My horse is 21 and i have noticed he is loosing abit of condition, his neck is beginning to get abit banana shaped, he is getting plenty of haylage, and has two feeds aday, and is rugged, please can anyone recommend any supplements, or any other advice i could use to help bring his neck back around. Thank you.

Most horses are losing condition at this time of year, it's natural I'm sure he will pick up when the grass starts coming through. But if you want to improve condition, you could feed an oil based supplement or a balancer which will have good protein in it. I feed Top Spec Balancer to my hunter and he always has plenty of muscle.

Sounds more like a topline musculature issue than a feed issue tbh... feeding will get you so far of course but if it's muscle the horse is lacking, no food adds muscle... just fat.

If he is 21, is he retired? Being out at grass will help and the moving around with others will help build muscle and if your are riding, this will help with building up muscle.

Something else to consider is if the horse is in pain anywhere as that can really make a horse look poor depending on how he carries himself.

its been the worst winter for over 30 yrs ,everyones oldies have suffered a little .my old boy has 3 rugs on and wont eat as much haylage as i would like so he has huge tub trugs of warm alphabeet and he loves it ,im convinced thats whats kept him going.

Thanks for all your comments, yeah my horse is ridden regularly especially in summer as he is so spritely, and he is always rugged. I feed him dengie Complete vanilla chaff two times aday, and in winter he has sugar beet and was being fed spillers happy hoove. His haynet is always stuffed full, to get his neck back in shape is riding the best and only answer..? He doesn't appear as if he is in any pain he is very spirtely, he is energetic, and his eyes are bright and he is alert. But of course, this is something to consider.
