My horses feathers are disappearing!

Fudges feathers seem to be vanishing. The burr plants have all been removed from our summer grazing so this is no longer the cause and he doesn't seem to have mites or be itching on them

Has anyone else have this happen to them?

nope, but i'm taking my horses off and wish they would do it themselves lol

the past week or so i have noticed a few bald pacthes apearing on my boys feathers thought he may have caught them on a fence but cant find any evidence of this? so sorry cant help but your not alone

Has it been very wet where you are? Are your fields muddy? If so it could be 'bog burn' which is what some people call it when too much mud strips the feathers off. It happens to mine every winter even though I put pig oil on them.

Oh dear, I mean my pony's feather, not mine...

not been wet with me very warm and muggy and feilds anything but muddy lol grass galore!

This happened to Chex over the winter, due to the mud I guess. They haven't really grown back even though the mud has gone

We are very lucky as are grazing is well drained so it's not the mud

any other ideas?
