So rode yesterday morning, everything all fine turned horse out a 11am ish, and went back at 2pm to get him in for the farrier, who was coming to put back shoes on.

Knew something was wrong straight away as horse not walking about while I walk up the track, and he wouldn't come to the gate. He was very hobbly coming in, and I am so sad for him, took 10mins for a 2 min walk. :(

So speak to vet and put them on stand up as farrier is on way. Farrier turns up and looks to be in near front, with maybe a little in other legs but not sure, cant find digital pulse, no hot legs or feet, or swelling.

Pinch test comes bk with extremely sore sole of suspect foot.

Vet comes pulls shoe off etc, cant find anything, searches for abscess, nothing.

So at the moment we are treating as an abscess to see if anything comes out, if not in a few days its an xray. :(

They've not totally ruled out Lami but its looking more towards either an Abscess or A fractured Pedal Bone. :(

That sucks! I hope he gets better :)

My mare fell lame, hoping and couldn't really put her foot down. We had the vet out and they did blockers etc, and we found it was definitely in the foot and not the leg, had x-rays done and nothing came up, so they said the only way they could know is if we had an MRI scan, but she wasn't insured and the treatment would be the same anyway, she was off for a year. But she's 100% now, wouldn't even know that she was lame, ever, and she's back jumping like everything should be 4 ft when it's only about 2ft6 :p

So I do hope you have the same out come, maybe not such a long wait though :p

Probably stood on something. Hopefully just a bruised foot. Gosh, is it cold where you are? All ours are naked, even the fully clipped ones. And only fleeces over night.

Thanks. Hopefully its nothing too bad.

He lives in a sort of converted barn type thing, theres openings at both end and it gets really cold in there. Its cold in there all the time, hes fully clipped. And he was sedated yesterday to get the shoe off and sweated up, and although it had stopped, I didnt want him getting cold.
He was running a temp of 39C also.

I am sorry to hear that you horse is not well and hope that it is nothing serious and that wagtail is right. I have to say though that I do find the concept of the horse being 'broken' when it is injured or unwell a very odd one, more the terminology I would use for a machine!

I would take rug off if he was running a temp as you want it to come down(if that makes sense).

Good luck hope it is nothing but a bruise etc. At least you can give him a chance to see if he improves with a bit of rest. You have done all you can for now and good you got the shoe off as well without any issues. Fingers crossed he will be on the mend soon.

Poor love, he looks so sorry for himself, fingers crossed it is not serious.

Have to agree with the others though, you need to take his rug off so you can get his temperature down - it is 25 degrees today.

Certainly not 25C where I am today! It's been 6C until 1.30pm ish, when the sun came out and it warmed up to 12C. Unfortunately not everyone basking in your 25C!

Where was it 25 degrees??? It was warm here but about 16 or 17 I think although my fully clipped horse is turned out naked at the moment. None of ours are stabled now anyway but i don't think now that temps are above 10 degrees any horse would need two rugs on!

Back to the foot/feet - more often than not it is the foot and unfortunately I am a bit of an 'expert' where abscesses are concerned (not through choice!). My pony was actually on 3 legs one day having been sound earlier on that same day - he wouldn't put the foot down at all and just hopped with his back leg - we thought he'd broken something! Turned out to be an abscess then!! Blooming things. Always start with the foot, that's what i say!

Yep it can be scary when a horse starts to develop an abscess. My mare only had two but both times you'd think something had broken! Lets hope that's what it is and it bursts soon.

I won't comment on the rugging as I have no idea what it is like where you are. You don't want him to chill though.

Who cares about the temperature and whether OPs horse is rugged... No ones business but her own, afterall she's the one in that location and a horses are different - Let's all try and stick to the topic of the post.
OP hope it's as straight forward as an absess. My shettie got one years ago, and whilst I waited for the vet I had broken bones and all sorts of awful thoughts going through my head ( he wouldnt weight bear)
Wishing you positive vibes xx
