I should say I have already phoned the vet for advice and I am waiting for them to call back but I could do with some reassurance from you lovely people. My boy was tied up outside his box this morning next to my friends horse. My friend had to take a phone call and walked away from her boy, and stupidly I wandered off to get some items out of the tack room. I was only gone a couple of seconds when I realised I shouldn't have moved off so I turned round and went straight back. Literally the second I returned and went to move my boy away my friends horse turned in a flash and double barrelled George in the side :-( He caught him across his stifle and more squarely in the gut. He onlyseems to have a couple of slight grazes on his stifle luckily, and when I push quite hard on them he hardly seems to notice. I'm a bit more concerned about his tummy tbh. He has a swollen outline of a shoe print and although the skin isn't broken it looks like it's quite tender. I have already cold hosed both areas and applied some arnica cream to his tummy but is there anything else I could/should do? I aleady know how idiotic it was to leave him even for a second and feel like a complete a**e so no need to tell me off.

What you have done to treat it sounds like what I would have done too. I'm assuming he isn't lame, no legs hanging off etc! If so then I would turn out and let him walk off any stiffness and soreness.

it sounds like you are suffering more that your horse here, so please dont worry. It sounds as if his body is just dealing with having been whacked and so swelling a bit, but as long as he is happy and well in himself and no obvious signs of anything else I would confirm with your vet but do what youve been doing and more importantly chill and remember horses are suicide machines and our role in life is simply to try our best to frustrate their wishes :-))

I trotted him up after about an hour and to me and my friend he looked sound. Glad you think I've done lright. I know it's what I would tell anyone else to do, but it's so much more difficult when it's your own.

I wouldn't be too concerned and I wouldn't beat yourself up about it - its a lesson learned for the future and your boy is a bit bruised but no serious damage :)

He'll be fine, don't worry yourself lovely! These things happen. We all make mistakes! Just keep a very close eye on him. xxxx
