My lesson at Talland!!

Was fab

Didn't think I would find it, but it was actually fairly easy

Brought back some memories for me though, driving around the Cotswolds as my Gran lived about 15 miles from Talland!! If only I knew that when I was younger!!

Git there early and was shown around. there were lots of lessons in the big indoor, which i thought would mean everyone would get in each others way, but it is so big it doesn't matter

Went and met my horse, he was a bay 15.2ish ex intermediate eventer
shocked.gif

called Kay, and he had one eye! He was a sweetie, quite quiet and easy to handle, which was a relief when I took him out his stable and it was blowing a gale outside and snowing

I am from the South, it never snows down there!!

Got on and wandered over to Brian, who was lovely
laugh.gif
and a really good teacher. To be honest I had no idea what to expect, i though the people here would be a little, I don't know how to say it without being rude,
wink.gif
'snobby'
shocked.gif

but really, everyone was really lovely and down to earth!!

Just did some work in walk, trot and some canter and I discovered that my bad rein is my right rein
crazy.gif
wink.gif
lol!! He said I adapted and took his comments on board really well and I even managed to get a few 'oohh that's lovely's when I rode some trot after our canter!! Kay was slightly 'sticky' and the canter really loosened him up
grin.gif
Brian picked up on a few little positional faults that I need to work on, even though it feels completely alien - things like I lean slightly forward, I look down and my right shoulder is slightly higher. I do have awful posture!!

Then after my lesson I had a beef sarnie and a can of fizz and watched an advanced dressage lesson.......I just love being around horses!!

Didn't really get any decent pictures......my photographer was ill and couldn't come (*get well soon!*) so i managed to swipe a bystander and she took some, but she was quite far away and I look teeny. But here's a couple so you get the jist

Kay is fab, such a good boy

Glad you enjoyed it- Brian's fab for sitting you straight and he's always really nice.

Yay so glad you had a great time. The people are lovely there aren't they and the schools are huge as well!

Glad you liked Brian - Mum is still going on about her lesson!
grin.gif

So when is your next lesson?

Bossanova I thought Kay was such a sweetie......when I started warming up he did object to me having too much of a hold on the inside rein, but i have been so used to riding Frankie and he needs that bit of pressure lol! But when we got going and I sussed him out I just thought how lovely he was
grin.gif
grin.gif
quite sensitive but really nice

Is your mum going to go back??

Im so pleased you posted this as me and one of the girls on the yard are hoping to go for a few days this year (annual holiday!) and it sounds as though you had a really constructive lesson and a fab time. I have heard on the forum really good feedback about Brian and a trainer called Justine, so after your report I am looking forward to it even more
laugh.gif
Kay sounds wonderful too. Hx

oh and I love riding in a dressage saddle....i thought I would have felt not secure but it was the total opposite! I suppose it helps you to get into the correct position, hence, I feel secure......lol.....

Llwyncwn you will have a great time, I might see if I can round uo a few more people and book a group lesson

I think she would like to but it is a very long way for us to go - may book some lessons round here. Maybe in the summer we might go down again.

You looking forward to your jump lesson?

I can't wait for my next lesson!!

grin.gif
I'd love to be able to go more regular but like you - I am fairly far away
frown.gif
frown.gif
and need to out the cost of petrol on top of my lesson, and my car is about 100 years old so don't want it to be doing too many miles, lol.......I need to save it
wink.gif

Star he was excellent at that - in canter on the right rein apparently I lent into the inside of the circle, and he said literally lean to the outside........i swear I felt so weird and thought I was going to fall out the side door but he said I was totally straight, and it just felt weird because it was so wrong before!!

Would have loved to video it
smile.gif

Well done Jen, looks great! So glad you enjoyed it and managed to get some pics in the end. Can't wait to hear all about your jumping lesson!
