went and had a lesson today with Frankie, had one on Thursday as well but todays was a last minute thing - and it was a group lesson

Frankie and I are loners and have never had a group lesson, plus he has never been at the yard where the lesson was so it was a day of firsts!

i hacked him there, and to be completely honest i was more worried about the hack there and less about the lesson!

i had to hack along a very busy road, and as Frankie can be spooky and exuberant it just adds to my nerves!

when i told his owner i was taking him she said 'its up to you, but he might be a bit jumpy along that road so be careful'. he was FINE ok i did have more of a hold on him than normal but i had no problem. i would have ridden on the pavement but people think that im not even there and dont slow down, so i stayed on the road - and we had our brights on. we were sure bright

anyway got to the yard and he was fairly settled, was jumpy but not stupid.

(hurrah!) met everyone at that yard and they were really nice, someone gave me a haynet for Frankie as well because i was so early!

jumped on him for the lesson - had a chat with the instructor and told her about out little problems, but said today i think i would need to help him settle! he wasnt spooky as such just liked to hawl me around the school!

he's not done that before, i think he was excited to be out and about with other ponios! i was told to keep my hands wide and low, because i kept raising them when he started to bu**er off with me, as i was slightly tense. *must learn to relax!*

we trotted over some poles - except he decided to jump over them instead

i think i coped - he did put me off a bit but i felt a lot better with other people there! then we did some circle work within poles which he coped with well, and some work over trotting poles which he was very good at

i was so pleased with him - i tend to fear the worst (one of my new years resolutions to stop worrying so much!) and although he wasn't the best behaved and did show me up a bit at first we started to get it in the end. im going to take him to more group lessons in the new year, so he should hopefully not be soooooo excited then!

he was like a donkey at the end - except when the instructor opened the gate to the school and he followed everyone out - he decided to try and jump out

i finally feel positive about Frankie and I! my instructor on Thursday even said that he had improved in 2 weeks! maybe i am doing something right after all

Well done, especially with coping with the hack there ....
Just try to relax and try not to worry too much about Frankie showing you up ..... I bet that other riders thought that their ponios where showing them up and I bet you did not notice that going on
smile.gif

Enjoy him as he sounds a lovely chap
grin.gif

yey he is lovely to me
grin.gif

i think i could have a lot if fun with him - but you're right i need to take a chill pill!
smirk.gif
my friend even rang me up bless her to ask how it went - and she said the same thing. 'quit worrying and get on and do it!'
laugh.gif
and also i must not care if i have an audience - i get stage fright

glad you had a good time. Frankie did some really nice work considering it was his first time here and in a group!

You did really well as well, once you started to relax a bit that made him relax then you guys worked really well!

was lovely to meet you, and look forward to the next clinic!

ah thanks catherine! you're right whenever he gets tense so do i and then the circle begins!
wink.gif
think i'm getting better though
grin.gif
