I've just replaced my 2 year old, ankle, winter boots for a new pair of (cheaper than Muckboots) wellies.

I was amazed by how much tread and grip I have with the new boots - I've been slipping and sliding for a while in my old boots....

Shoes are definitely the way forward

I get cheapo wellies from Dickies. They last ages - far longer than Hunters - and have really good tread. I do like something that goes right up my leg. We have streams on our pasture!

I've got a pair of thermal boots to go into, but it's not cold enough here as yet. My Hunters sadly died last winter after I stuck a fork through them. I'd had them for years!

There is a lady in a nearby town that walks around in all weathers " Barefoot" she must be mental, even in the snow and ice.

I do it in summer - it feels good after the first few minutes of "ouch" and your feet buzz afterwards.

I did try going down the field barefoot one November and quickly learnt it was waayy too cold
